  1. Which training ball to pick

    I like Nittaku J-top
  2. Winning matches at a lower level?

summary: make 10 or 20 shots on the same ball between the two of you a few times during warmups. in the exercises don't add power if it causes you **or your partner** to make less than 70% on the table.
  3. Does sweat getting into the handle of the blade really increases its weight?

I think the extra weight goes away as the blade dries out again. Anyway weight in the handle wouldn't make it feel much heavier, might feel lighter depending how the balance was to start.
  4. Winning matches at a lower level?

A serious training partner with a lot of free time who wants to do exercises in a purposeful way, not just mess around or play games.
  5. Advice for forehand rubber

rozena was made for you, give it a try
  6. Which blade breaks easier, the flexible or the stiff?

everyone says this so I guess it is true. but I know several people who play these, and I have also used one ply at times, and never heard of anyone I actually know breaking one
  7. Bounce with the Ball / Split-Step

Miwa hop bh in side-view slo-mo clearly two hops for two bounces. she skips the bounce on her side, maybe bc this is an exercise the timing is before the bounce but in full speed looks about simultaneous
  8. Rozena vs. Rakza 7?

for me they are comparable except R7 is a bit faster, which you could say also = slightly less control. but the real difference is whether you want the spring sponge feel, or a normal ESN gen whatever feel. if you played tenergy for a while and liked it then you may prefer rozena. if you...
  9. Which blade breaks easier, the flexible or the stiff?

either kind is easy to break if you try at all. my advice is buy some cheap five-plies specifically for racket throwing when you get pissed off in a match.
  10. Blade and rubber suggestions for 6 year old starter

I'd focus on light weight. Get a thin sponge in whichever rubber you choose. It's going to wear out and be replaced soon enough. And in a year or two the extra grams of max sponge will not matter to your kid either.
  11. Does it really matter what paddle to use?

It really doesn't matter. If you are a looper and will use inverted rubber both sides any setup is fine. Whether you get coached from the beginning will matter a ton, also how much deliberate practice you do. Relative to those two things your choice of MX-P vs dignics, or TB ALC vs fextra...
  12. Bounce with the Ball / Split-Step

Amazing thread. NL knows this is one of my favorite topics. To me it is obvious that we all play better if we keep our feet moving all the way through every point. It's just very tiring, and easy to slip into lazy play. The Veach article was excellent. I tried shadow training, robot...
  13. Are 5-ply wood blades more flexible than 7-ply (inner) carbon blades?

Yes, but more flexible doesn't always equal more control. It will be slower than an average outer carbon blade, and both slower and less catapulty than inner carbon. If you respond to the relative slowness by trying to muscle the ball you may get less control, at least until you adjust your...
  14. What is the ideal throw angle on the forehand rubber?

any spring sponge has a good throw for me. it's all what you are used to. ideal is whatever fits your technique and what you trained with.
  15. Life, Existence, and the Meaning of Long Pips - The Opus Maximus of James Z

I am following the standard old-fart plan ... change to short pips at 50, medium at 55, working up to long pimples for 60.
  16. Anyone have a sneak peak of Glayzer yet?

don't waste your money, Glayzer is nothing like t05
  17. What makes certain rubbers so popular?

Most people don't systematically test every rubber in a series. I played G1 for a couple years, I liked it. Never even had a hit with the other fastarcs, didn't care. Popular rubbers stay popular by word of mouth and user satisfaction. T05, rakza 7, g1, mxp are all good rubbers that a lot...
  18. Video Footage Safe Thread

I am working on this progression exactly with the beginners I coach (free coaching) at a local club. Multiball fh vs push, multiball fh vs normal ball, and once those are competent (75%+) the next step is feed push, they fh loop, feeder blocks back, play loop v block as long as possible trying...
  19. Seven Laws of Spin (General things about sidespin and backspin that experienced people know)

This sidespin retention thing is also true vs short pips even if the receiver doesn't use a racket angle to neutralize the spin. I guess the lower rubber surface area does the neutralizing.
