I'm referring to a complete bat here, blade + rubbers. I've always wondered where the different terminology comes from. Most people in my region (South Australia) call them bats, but I've come across racket or paddle too, especially on forums. What do you call them in your region?

For non-tacky rubbers water is usually enough, but for Tacky rubber you'll need to use a cleaner more often if you want to keep it tacky. Foam cleaners work best for me for tacky rubbers (also plastic sheets are vital for this).

Yes very expensive, especially considering it's made in China! Made in China is certainly not necessarily bad, but the cost to make it would no doubt be considerably less, which should be reflected in the retail price IMO.

You didn't actually say :o I always use the thinner glues, those that come in the little 25g bottle with the sponge on top, like Donic Formula, Xiom I-bond, etc. These are quite strong, and thin enough so that no lumps show through for OX rubbers. Durability depends very much on you, and how sensitive you are to (slow) changes in the characteristics. I know people who get 2 years out of a Bluefire, others that change every 2 months or so. If you always need to high grip that the new rubbe comes with, you might have to change more often...

The secret is to always keep it clean, and you MUST put the plastic protection sheet on. This will keep it tacky for years.

While I agree with you, I actually find it easier to cut with a knife. With scissors you need to be really careful not to lift the rubber on the edge while you're cutting, because with WBG (unlike VOC glue), you can't push it down again and make it stick. As long as you push down on the rubber...

I've used a water-based polyurethane sealer before as well, but it was only available in larger tins, so this seemed a bit of a waste. It seemed to work fine as well, and of course no nasty fumes and easier to clean up.

It seems Minwax is not commonly available everywhere, as I've not seen it in Australia. Still there are plenty of other good ones.

No, I think most of us glue first, then cut. If the knife is sharp the cut is usually perfect. If you cut first before glueing, then the alignment is too hard to get perfect.

I use a 18mm 'box-cutter' knife, and also cut right along the blade edge after gluing. This gives me the best result too.

I use it regularly, but only a very thin coats as others have already suggested. Unlike the TT sealers that are sold, the polyurethane is waterproof, although such a thin layer will only offer some protection against water. I'm not sure if a spray can will help. Perhaps spray on a little then...
