It would be very strange for a top player to purposefully or willingly cease control of the point while looping by stepping back and switching to lobbing mode - unless he or she is playing an exhibition match. IMHO, Mizutani specifically is pretty much always forced to do so.

Not just serves, his blocking is top-notch too, BH loop is not too shabby either. IMHO, anyone who, like Kenta, is able to survive for so long at that level while using mostly long serves deserves nothing but respect and admiration.

There is nothing wrong with it per se. IMHO, you'd find the new setup a touch slower than the current one (from your signature). If that's the intended effect of the equipment change, then go for it.

If one produces the same arc using two different rubbers, then the tangential velocity to normal velocity ratio at the point when the ball loses contact with the rubber surface will be the same for both rubbers. If the ratio was different, one wouldn't get the same arc. Basic artillery physics...

It is hard for me to disagree with you because you're are an experienced coach and a far more advanced player than I will ever be. Many beginners do find softer high throw rubbers easier to play with - that has also been my experience. At the same time, IMHO, not every beginner will find it...

It is the player that creates the arc, not the rubber. Learning how to "power loop" with either low/medium/high arc at will makes anyone a much better player.
