@NextLevel Well, all you said is good and well, but what part of "stood out" and "gave me this impression" do you not understand? It could be the camera angle, his body type, the color of his shirt, whatever, but now I really noticed that movement and just how circular it is.
  2. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

@NextLevel Probably both. However I'm talking about his BH loop opener against backspin, not any of his other BH strokes. It gave me this impression of a quite large stroke that takes a somewhat circular motion. Of course, many players execute it that way, but his stood out.
  3. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Hah. I'd been watching video of myself playing, and I tend to do this kind of circular windmill backhand, be it a flick or topspin. I'd thought it was technically a mistake, but it worked, so I've let it stick. Now I'm watching Ma Long playing Sun Wen, and Sun Wen has this huge backhand that...

    @ttmonster Explain "moving with bias".
  5. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

NL makes a good point: I was about to say that. Of course, we do understand why Greg and Brett and whatnot have more or less qualified themselves. I think it's probably somewhat reasonable to listen to what they say and not be terribly skeptical. However, why then be skeptical of everyone...
  6. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I guess the point you're trying to make is: 1: Listen 2: Make your conclusions 3 months after applying the advice, not the day after 3: Actually apply the advice! I can see that there's truth in this, because I keep going back to a lot of old advice or things I read, because only now they're...
  7. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I can imagine all the sub-1000 people giving Greg advice on his game because his technique is clearly whack and junk rubbers are for losers, while they themselves insist on arguing with 2200-some players on why they lost to the old man in the last tourney.
  8. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

That's a pretty interesting point of view, Greg. How much do you think lower level players would actually benefit if they just listened to what is being said? Where do you think the miscommunication is: lower level players not understanding what much higher level players have to say, or them...
  9. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I think I've always had a clear idea of how I generally want to play 5, 10, 15 years from now, but naturally as I get better and understand the game more, that idea goes more in-line with reality. I might develop a better two wing looping game and pivot less, or be forced to defend more when I...
  10. How much bigger is the rubber allowed to be?

Rubber is a bit easier to pull off when it's a bit larger than the blade face, I've heard.
  11. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

@NextLevel Yeah, true. Next time I play, I'll get some more video. This time we weren't there too long, so there was no time to charge my phone. Damn thing won't let me film at low battery. I should really just charge it up fully for the next time.

Tried whipping a little more today. I think I got a miniscule amount of more "free spin" with no added risk, because people kept putting out the whip shots even if they are now adapted to my normal loop. Still need to develop it further, right now there is very very little whip but it's something.
  13. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

To say the truth, when I try whipping into the ball, I get more spin. Visibly more, and I can feel it as pressure on the racket when the ball contacts. Not terribly much more, but more. However I haven't really tried to start incorporating that into my shots because I don't have much control...
  14. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

@NextLevel It's a good point to remember that higher level players don't just magically produce a better ball. Always, there is something concrete that, in theory, you or me can do. I guess a better way to express it would be to say that better whip mechanics are not my reality RIGHT NOW, so...
  15. Rubber warmer by Donic

Like @laistrogian said, heat is good for rubber. In terms of automobile tire rubber in race cars, you really don't want to be pushing the limits of what they can do when cold. It will cause tearing and other such damage. After a few laps around a standard 2 minute course, pushing hard on cold...
  16. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

@NextLevel I was straight arming balls for maybe half an hour at a slow pace. I've done it before but never to this extent, because I could never actually get my bat on the ball with a stroke like that until this day. I'm not sure I've ever landed, or even attempted a stroke like...
  17. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Ahh, today was a good day. Yesterday I said there are no stable blockers around here, but I lied. I forgot one player who doesn't play too much because of a recent minor injury. However he is getting better and playing more because he is basically healed. I played some matches with him and a...
  18. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I've noticed that a good topspin stroke and good positioning kind of go hand in hand. However up to now I haven't really understood where exactly I want to be and doing what kind of stroke. Even now I don't really know: but I have more of an idea. If I can train some of my partners to block...
  19. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

@NextLevel Alright, that makes sense. I think I have somewhat of an idea what I want to practice in terms of forehand form, now. I wasn't fully conscious of the fact that I could actually just try to brush very vertically (Or at least what feels very vertically) instead of trying to half-smash...
  20. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

The only thing I can think of is following through farther past the ball and brushing over it. Is that what you mean? Ah, I think I see something. Comparing the most similar looking shot I could find, it seems that I change the blade angle unnaturally and hit slightly into the ball, while Timo...
