  1. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I'm not sure I'm understanding what you mean. What exactly is not okay about my writing? That I don't write like "most of us"?
  2. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Hahaha. That is sound advice, but I didn't mean that kind of need.
  3. Par Gerell's Serves vs TableTennisDaily's Dan!

I couldn't read any of these on the first try. Fantastic. I was pretty sure that some of the backspin serves were top or even side/cork, but they weren't. His action is very smooth, and the motion is very similar if not identical if you just go through them all at once without pausing. It...
  4. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

@UpSideDownCarl Well, it kind of was a rhetorical question. This is a chit chat thread: you guys don't always need to be in serious coach mode. I really do appreciate the want to help us when we're in need, though. It's some work to analyze video footage and provide detailed insight. I really...

@NextLevel I'm not really asking for a solution: I think it's not a real issue and just a combination of many things, namely playing badly and just undeveloped touch. However your point on closing the angle is interesting. I understand you can hit through topspin, or avoid it. How would you go...

Seems like it's a bit of all of those. Just one of those days. It was still something seeing a high smash go right off the edge against a light ball, then get another, attempt to correct, and still have it go off the edge. I hit some and missed some but this is unusual.

Today my forehand shots were consistently going off the end. Smashes and loops alike. I think it was just a bad day, but it feels like I needed to close the angle more than normal. My opponents haven't suddenly increased their spin, so what gives?
  8. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

For the first time I woke up, and the first shadow swing I did didn't tense my shoulder, at least more than 10% or so. It's a start. I think now is the time for this video.

@Boogar I think on some of your 3rd balls, you could have tried a forehand pivot. Why didn't you go for it? I also saw you miss an easy backspin push read when you thought it was gonna go off the end. Maybe just a bad day indeed? Also a thing I've seen from the beginning when you started...
  10. European Cadets Champion 1984 against European Cadets Champion 1984 !

This is one of the best matches I've seen in some time.
  11. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I'm working on the half strokes. I hate that crap. I'm getting a little bit more confidence in doing full swings. Timing is a big part in that I feel. It's been nearly a month already? We had exams last week, and I'd been busy all last month. I didn't even notice that time flied. I should...
  12. Speeking during the rally

I hate this. I'm not very sensitive at reacting to startling sounds, but my concentration always goes onto the words being said and can be hard to regain.
  13. Changes in Table Tennis

I see. It does make sense, what you say about China. I also did not mean to lump China and Japan together: they're nothing alike in my eyes. I do have to disagree on what you said about the so called scary element. Political correctness is simply an attempt to control speech and thinking: not...
  14. European Cadets Champion 1984 against European Cadets Champion 1984 !

He looks very young for playing during 1984.
  15. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Once I start consistently producing that feeling in serves and shots and it produces a spinnier ball, I'll start making some sense out of it. Right now, it could be anything.

The way I understand it is that blue sponge rubbers seem to mostly be black, and thus pros use them on their forehand because of the blue sponge, and it just happens to be black. I do it because I wear a black shirt and it hides the contact better on serves, I think it looks better, and...
  17. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I think I know what you mean, but I'm not sure if that's it exactly. It doesn't feel like a very deep impact, just slightly "grabbier" but in a more harsh way than the tack grab. My best loops I've ever produced had this feeling, and the common thing I can see is high racket speed and taking the...
  18. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

@UpSideDownCarl Interesting points about the contact depth. The way I could describe it is that I can feel the topsheet grabbing on very well especially on slow, thin shots, but the sponge is a brick. It doesn't feel like my rubber even has a sponge at times. Maybe using a softer sponge...
  19. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I'm pretty sure I have gotten better at reading all kinds of balls after I started lobbing to much weaker players. Sometimes I swear there is some spin on the ball, when there's none, and I have to read it off the ball, or sometimes the ball just flies in a strange direction and it feels like...
