  1. Dwell time

Explain. I know that when you ask for more output from your hearing or your vision for example, you can train your brain to produce a more accurate, or should I say more desirable output. If you restrict the sense, you can train your brain to produce good output with less input. People's...
  2. Dwell time

No, Carl. You would feel less. However you could train your brain to "make more sense" of less input. Does that make sense?
  3. Dwell time

I could, and I think I will. However I'm somewhat sure I will run into placebo. My level is simply too low to produce accurate empiric results. Everyday I improve a little. If I play this week mostly with gloves, and take them off the next week, and I've improved, what conclusion do I come to?
  4. Dwell time

Baal, do you see anything with my thinking above? You mentioned it yourself, but feel is a lot more than just physical feeling. Feel is being able to produce the wanted result on the ball, right? So my reasoning is that with restricted physical feeling, one can get more out of very little...
  5. Asians vs Europeans

Yecats, I noticed. However thinking that the Asians are just somehow superior to Europeans because they're Asians will guarantee that we will never, ever see another Waldner or Persson.
  6. Asians vs Europeans

Last time I checked, ethnicity doesn't have that much to do with how much spin you produce.
  7. Dwell time

It's possible that the amount of vibrations is simply not enough in table tennis to produce needed feedback, but let me entertain you with something: When you feel something, you are receiving input and your brain actually produces the feeling. Better players have better brains more so than...
  8. Dwell time

Baal, I don't think playing with gloves would negatively influence someone's touch. It would probably increase their touch, and also their other sense. In his Ultimate Speed Secrets book, for race car drivers, Ross Bentley talked about restricting some of your senses ie: feel, hearing etc...
  9. Dwell time

Are we talking about speed or acceleration? I've always been under the impression that the rate of acceleration matters much more than the maximum velocity.
  10. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

NL, that video pains me so much. I've seen far too many missed opportunities in the first 10 min already. I just want to go in there and tell him to stop pushing! However he has some very good things in his game that I can see. His serves are good and nearly all of the returns he gets are weak...
  11. Dwell time

@Baal This is basically a well explained version of what I said earlier. Thanks. More dwell time, so little more that there's no way we can feel it, results in MUCH more of something else that we CAN feel. Probably.
  12. Advice need for new blade splintering problem

This is the worst: when one thing is wrong but everything else is perfect. It'd be much better if the blade was a complete potato and had no redeeming qualities. No emotional dilemma then. ;)
  13. Advice need for new blade splintering problem

If there's anything wrong with it when it arrives, who knows what else is wrong with it that you can't see. Send it back and get a brand new, quality controlled one. You can probably safely play with this one, but it's a bit insulting to pay good money for something and have it arrive damaged...
  14. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

@Boogar I'm seeing what NL is seeing, I think. Your movement's speed is very even. There's not that much acceleration. However I noticed that your backswing HAS improved! There is a little whip in it. Perhaps try to think more of an accelerating movement, getting slower near the backswing...
  15. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

To me it feels much better to get my ass handed to me but play to my maximum than to under-perform and win disappointingly. Most of my wins are very disappointing wins, and I don't really need to push myself that much. It's terrible. I'm sure I would improve much faster if all the people I'd...
  16. Dwell time

There is no way that dwell time is always EXACTLY the same. Even I can feel that nowadays. We also need to consider that maybe we don't really feel the ball as it's on the racket as much as the forces that ensue from what happens when it's on the racket. Maybe that's why higher level players...
  17. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Played my gym teacher today. I'd played him before, in the past, so I knew what to expect. I demolished him 1st game, but he beat me 8 - 2 in sets afterwards. He's a blocker with good touch who can redirect fast shots into wide angles easily and has very spinny short serves that force me to...
  18. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Lately I've been occasionally producing shots that are far, far beyond my normal spin level. I have no idea how apart from it feeling different and feeling more body being used more rapidly. I've come to the conclusion that it has something to do with timing, and a lot to do with racket head...
  19. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

NL, your loop looks a lot faster and snappier in that video. Did something good happen?
  20. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I'm not gonna be reaching a high level anytime soon just by myself, so I focus on specific, short term things. I've taken the approach of "big ideas -> small ideas". So, right now I am working on fully accelerating the bat in all my strokes. Once I can do that, I will start working on getting...
