  1. Match video: Thoughts please

I think it goes without mentioning, but good that you posted video. Even if we say that you should do this or that, I think you know that only a few here can really perform "properly" all the time, and even they are improving their game all the time. To tell you the truth, sometimes on bad...
  2. Jean Michel Saive is planning to run for ITTF President

Yes, this is good. Saive is a great player and athlete: I think he would fit.
  3. Help! How to coach a complete newbie?

It's quite insulting that you think I don't subscribe to his blog and haven't been subscribed to it for years and reading it religiously. As soon as I started googling table tennis things, I found his blog. :p
  4. TT pet peeves?

I always bounce the ball on serve. People do parodies of it. ;) There's an actual reason for it though: it runs my "quality serve" program and gets me ready to serve to win, not to just put it on the table.
  5. Match video: Thoughts please

I can't give much advice, because you do play better than I do. However I noticed a few things: You start the rally mostly on your heels. You push off and it looks like you get to a better more forward weight distribution, but what are you going to do if a rocket serve comes your way? It's a...
  6. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Knowing that you have high enough strength and a good method of accelerating your bat rapidly to begin with, don't you think that a larger movement could ultimately aid you to do those better, or are the downsides not worth it for you?
  7. TT pet peeves?

If you liked the snippet, I would recommend the book just for the mental game and learning chapters. There's 335 pages, of which a hundred or so are dedicated towards things that are pretty universal. Although it's all in the context of motor racing: who would've known! :p Ross Bentley is a lot...
  8. Help! How to coach a complete newbie?

I can't give you much advice, but here's one thing I've heard for kids concerning serve practice: When they start doing serve practice and get a little better, put up targets. Goals made from broken balls, paper cups as targets to hit, or if you really want to motivate them, put up pieces of...

NL, you don't use a lot of body in your serves compared to what I'd assume someone of your serving level would use. Why is that? Is it physically challenging, or is it a question of consistency, or just how you were taught? I'm aware it's possible to serve very, very well with mostly only...
  10. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

You don't really involved your forearm too much, and there's little to no body weight being put into the shot. Now, if those are genuine mistakes, I'm not qualified to touch on. I don't know whether or whether not your serve would get better from changing your serve that much; there's more to...
  11. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I've found that when most people, myself included, start to go higher, they also go more backwards onto their heels. I feel it's a bit difficult and not natural to go very high when on your soles, so keep your weight on your toes, so to say.
  12. some thoughts on sports life

We'd wish this to be true, but we all know it's not. You don't hear of the millions who don't make it. However, perhaps what is important is not whether you reach your end goal, but the path you take when attempting to reach it.
  13. TT pet peeves?

With all this talk about what annoys us, I'd like to take out a little gem by Ross Bentley in his Ultimate Speed Secrets book. It's for race car drivers, but I'm sure you can see the relevance to much of any sport. "Many drivers become too focused on what their competitors are doing. They're...

You don't get my point. What if I told you that I lost to a player because of their very spinny forehand loop? Wouldn't you just tell me they're better than I am?
  15. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

You had problems with his serve, and you lost. Isn't he higher level?

Say the blade is 95g mass and the weight distribution is 60/40 front rear. 57g/38g front rear You add 5g to the rear, let's assume it's to the very rear for simplicity sake. 57g/43g front rear. 43 divided by 100 is 0.43. Your front/rear weight distribution is now 57/43, and your total...

Well, think of it like this: What is easier to swing down and then pull back assuming the same length, a stick with 5kg evenly distributed or a hammer with 5kg of weight distributed unevenly? The hammer will swing down harder due to the head weight, but might be harder to pull back, right...
  18. Children China TRAINING TABLE TENNIS

I didn't know they spoke Japanese in China. ;)
  19. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Well, a lot's at play, I'd say. Strength for one: I know my blade has been feeling lighter and lighter. However I'd have to wager that stroke technique and length of arms proportionally also play a big part. The blade won't feel as heavy close to your body as it does far away, obviously...
  20. What do you prefer? Chinese Rubber vs European Rubbers?

When my forehand rubber starts getting bad (If ever, seeing what I'm using ;)) and I won't mind keeping it off my blade, not being glued to anything, I might. If it's still available. Right now, I REALLY don't want to mess up my head and start EJ-ing or losing my form with other rubbers when...
