  1. Just curious how many Penholders are on TTD?

genrel001, If you can, get lessons with a coach. It should speed up your learning. If not, if you have a friend or a member that can RPB to help you out, that would help too. I mostly self-learned RPB. I actually self-trained SH BH first. I wasn't sure if my wrist/hand could handle the extra...

Hello genrel001, In full disclosure, I have a friend I have regularly played and he sounds like what you call an allrounder. I have lost a ridculous amount of games to him, partly because I was forcing myself to learn RPB and partly because I neglected my FH loop. Past 2 weeks or so, my FH loop...

Last night, I hit with a new member, a young PH kid. My knee is still achy. Have a brace on. So instead of playing games or serious practice, I was paying it forward and trying to help this kid. We chatted briefly a week or 2 before when he asked some general questions. Last time, I mentioned...

Full disclosure: I have not played a tournament in over 30 yrs and probably won't play in any time soon if at all. yoass gave you good advice! I would add: For warmup off the table, I would include some shadowing drills if you have no access to a table to warmup on: 1. Basic strokes (FH, BH...

You and Sun Tzu ... great minds think alike! From his The Art of War Chapter 6: Weak Points and Strong (Lionel Giles translation) "So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong and to strike at what is weak. • Water shapes its course according to the nature of the ground over which it flows...
  7. How to beat phishy players?

TTN: Everyone has already given you great advice. I was going to post to vary the tempo of your smashes but I see Lula mentioned it already. Don't do this during the match if you haven't practiced this to a decent skill level. You may end up missing the ball more than you want. I love to smash...

No videos yet. Sorry. This 70 yr old Jpenner always beats me 3-0 in the past 3 or 4 yrs when we play. Last week lost 3-1 all close games ... tonight winning 8 to 2 with the serve in first game, beat him at 4. Lost next 2 like 7 or 8 pts. Won 4th 8 or 9 points. 5th lost at 5. Lost steam and...

Sir, First, thank you for posting video of your gameplay! 2nd, hard for me to focus with the net and first table in the way. Looks like you won the first game but lost the 2nd? And yet shook hands and ended the match. Your opponent won 2 straight? I'm not qualified to talk technique. Will...

Welcome to the PH thread Lula! All are welcome!! My father was a PH. I started as a PH mainly because of him. When I joined a club, my first coach, Alex Tam, just showed me some basics and did not work extensively with me. IIRC he was a 2500 TPB SP double-winged attacker. He was known for his...

Suds, I have not yet in any great lengths of time. Sporadically try it. I find my wrist is inflexible with that grip for the angle needed to block/punch. Spin obviously is ok. Flat hit, I don't recall, however I can see myself be iffy with flat hitting with this grip... again, may not get the...

Really crazy how mental I am. Playing with an unorthodox grip about 6 or 7 months with extended fingers and about 3 or 4 mos with curled fingers, I cannot hit with my TPB curled fingers grip. I may need a month or 3 to try to get steady with TPB grip. Anyone else like this?

When i hurt my shoulder 2 or 3 years ago, i met up with Carl. He asked me to move my arms in various directions. He saw something that was causing my arm a different range of motion than my left. Although it could be partly due to the pain, prior to this injury, 20 yrs ago, I noticed I cannot...
