  2. World Cup 2024

They could just do best of 5 where player wins 3 points for 3-0, 2 points for 3-1 and 1 point for 3-2 or something. The idea of a match ending in a draw is just silly to me.
  3. World Cup 2024

So how do you feel about the ridiculous group stage matches? 4 games. Yes. A match can end in a 2-2 draw. Have you ever seen in any racket sport a match end in a draw. I can’t even comprehend the thought that this might be a good idea, and to try it for the world cup? It’s basically being used...
  4. ITTF/WTT problems reported from players

He cannot compare table tennis to other sports, soccer players may have a world cup commitment and continental once a year or something - but WTT events are across the whole calendar and forcing players to compete is absurd. The athletes have no freedom of choice here, they are being forced to...
  5. ITTF/WTT problems reported from players

They had almost 2.5 million usd of unpaid prize money from first quarter that was owed to players.
  6. ITTF/WTT problems reported from players

I was told by a player today that they have some weird payout quota, like you have to win a minimum prize money from certain events to be paid out, or you need to have prize money from say at least 3 contender events. They have threshholds for payouts in place.
  7. Why do people say LP's should be banned?

Because they can’t play against them. I’ve never heard a player who has no issues playing pips players suggest they should be banned honestly 😂
  8. ITTF/WTT problems reported from players

Seems Aruna's meeting with WTT paid off. Literally. Lot of players got paid out by WTT today.
  9. ITTF/WTT problems reported from players

Well the sponsors are expecting WTT to deliver what they promised. That’s 4 grand smashes and 4 Champions plus whatever quota of star contenders, contenders and feeders. They haven’t done that so far since their launch in 2021. It would be ample reason for sponsors to withhold payments. It...
  10. ITTF/WTT problems reported from players

I spoke to a handful of players today, everyone I spoke to is currently owed prize money by WTT. Some dates back as far as ITTF Mixed Team World Cup last December and spans multiple events totaling many thousands of dollars. It’s really not a good look right now and you have to question whether...
  11. World Cup 2024

No most national associations do fund events across Europe and even Brazil, Argentina etc other players get funding from their brand sponsors for WTT etc also. I would say most national teams fund team events too like usa cover costs for world championships etc. But for players lower on...
  12. World Cup 2024

They don’t cover anything. I probably paid something like $20,000usd for tournaments in my short international career and ultimately decided it wasn’t the go for me lol
  13. World Cup 2024

Hrmmm I think Brad Chen Aaron Li Shane Laugesen Aaron and Shane were around 220wr at the time I think. Which in that system was a decent level.
  14. World Cup 2024

To be honest it’s on New Zealand to improve their situation. Between TTNZ and NZOC the sport has just been nosediving for the last 30 years and nothing has really stopped it. The last time NZ men won Oceanias was 2004 😂 Australia invest more in players and also their players move abroad for...
  15. World Cup 2024

There were 7 Australians in the top 100 a year ago. Henzell at his career best made top 100 and he was a truly outstanding player. So if there’s any systematic bias it’s towards Oceania already 😂
  16. World Cup 2024

    Tony understands lol
  17. World Cup 2024

The world ranking system already lends itself to allowing more Oceania players to qualify for major events than before. I’m not biased to my home country i’m thinking about the sport in general and what I think is good for it. Of course I understand it’s not a difficult concept to grasp that...
  18. World Cup 2024

If you have 48 players then how is it any different from WTT Champions, or a Grand Smash Main draw, or watching a Star Contender. The Top 16 format was a point of difference for the World Cup. And a point of difference is important to keep people interested when all of the other events are...
  19. World Cup 2024

Previous World Cups with 16 have been great. It's all part of a bigger system. Rather than having qualification matches before the main draw you have continental cups - Europe Cup, Africa Cup, Asia Cup, Oceania Cup and Pan Am Cup. Those events are also top 16 format style. Winning the...
  20. World Cup 2024

As someone who played World Team Champs in 2016 with 96 mens and 96 women's teams, I can tell you the organizational strain is too much for a lot of hosts. The second 'hall' in Malaysia was literally white marque tents on elevated wooden floors over a stadium parking lot. Don't get me wrong...
