  4. How to deal with high risk strategies

I recently faced a challenging match scenario that I believe many of you might have encountered. I was playing against an objectifly weaker opponent and managed to dominate the first two sets, going 2-0 up. However, my opponent then switched to a high-risk, high-reward strategy, and...
  5. Part 2/4 of myself playing against Former Mexico no3. Enjoy this YouTube clip

There are a few things to consider. Don’t approach a chop as if you “must” win a point outright by attacking. More important is placement there’s no shame in pushing à heavy backspin Yes Chops are often heavy backspin, so depending on your level, you should only attempt to open up a chop...
  6. 50/50 match despite opponents level

Well there’s also a factor to consider, skill level does not equal rating level at all… When playing for something, even something as silly as rating points, stress and pressure take another dimension completely.

  8. i dont think chinese rubbers do most people any favours

I feel the argument “if no one around you plays Chinese rubbers, no one can help you develop” holds some truth though. I very briefly tried Chinese rubbers but could not physically, and I experienced something along those lines. My teammates tried to advise me but their advice was way more...

  10. I can't play table tennis when the opponent is humiliating himself and talks to himself just to get some magical powers. Are they mentally ill?

It's called externalising. Since you need to be calm to play well, some or most people benefit from venting after going through emotions/stress. See it as a sort of reset after a point. The problem is when externalising becomes too present, or frustration turns sour.

He played well in the French national championship. Got to the semifinal where he got overclassed by Felix
  14. Does training with a certain ball matter?

Anyway, if your shot selection is not good, the ball doesn’t matter. The only obvious importance of type of table and ball, in my opinion for amateurs up to intermediates, is when you try to serve short. Or more generally when you try to keep the game closed. It’s much harder on faster tables...

I play YSE coming down from a ma lin carbon, and I can confirm that to me they feel very similar in the hand. I think your analysis is spot on if sweet spot is what you’re searching for. Be sure to match the weight though my ma lin carbon is 93 grams and my YSE 82

  19. Best Blade(s) to use Against pimples

I find playing pips players an excellent benchmark for my ability to control my equipment. If I overshoot a lot , means I need to slow down and if I can’t pass the net I need to increase the speed.
  20. How should I return short and low no spin serves that come to my backhand other than pushing them long or slowly flicking them being left handed?

I’d say any return that doesn’t set up your opponents game is good to a short serve. I always start with a preferred return. Lowest percentage of direct mistakes. Then if they do attack my preferred return I try to augment the quality of that return. (Placement, height, deception) and add variety.
