  1. French League 2016/2017

Thanks. Would have loved to see the Aruna vs. Pitchford match.

By the way, why did I make a big deal out of this? Let me explain a little. I am not saying you should kill the ball early but I am saying that you should strive to put spin on the ball consistently, which is something you do not always try to do but which should be a part of your style at the...

The backhands were good but the two first strokes were lazy relative to those backhands. Something to think about. All balls without heavy topspin can be approached with shots similar to those backhands. That will raise your level if you get it right.

That's what drove the rule, so trust the ITTF to go in the wrong direction.

Here is some of my small knowledge on the subject: Some of the quads support lateral movement, some of the quads support staying low. All other things being equal, the lower you are, the harder it is to move laterally. The benefits of staying low are not moving faster but that being lower...

You don't move faster, you can cover more table in a certain context.

Currently sick of table tennis if you can believe that. Trained a lot and learned a lot over the past week and a half working with Brett and watching him work with others. The sport is extremely fascinating and you can only marvel at how little you know compared to what you thought you knew...

Even if it goes well in Germany, how do we know Germany is like the rest of the world?
  9. How to play against flat hitters.

Hit downwards. Most topspin strokes are upwards or upwards and forwards, even when relatively flat. No body hits a ball along the bottom unless they are pushing heavy backspin. The point of a flick with some measure of backspin is that you do not want the opponent to simply block and get the...
  10. How to play against flat hitters.

In general, these "how do I play against X" posts were generally answered in a book by Larry Hodges and if you don't buy the book, you can find the advice in his tips on the internet. The truth is that if you are young, you simply beat any style by ... you guessed it, playing good table tennis...
  11. How to play against flat hitters.

Hit downwards on the back of the ball or with a fairly flat motion. Ball has to be high of course and the flip will feel relatively heavy and need to be lifted. I do it all the time in matches when I don't want to flip with spin into a blocking or hitting opponent.

Yes. Especially when a blade is great for looping and will turn my good forehand loop into a great forehand loop.
  13. Tiago Apolonia ZLC

You love fast blades tho. I like the blade but when someone says a blade is great for looping, I want to see their loop so I can get an idea of what they are really saying.
  14. Tiago Apolonia ZLC

Can you post a video of your loop, laistrogian? I don't find the IF ZLC particularly special.
  15. Tiago Apolonia ZLC

JeffM, The other thing is that different blades even of the same exact type play differently. Wood is a living thing. Weight matters. So unless you get the exact blade you tested, you may not like the one you ordered that is different. TT is like that. In the end, the more you use a blade...

For members in the Tristate area, Brett will be at Westchester Table Tennis Club. On Wednesday evening giving a clinic on serving. Definitely recommended if you are under 2200 or just want to work on your serves. http://www.westchestertabletennis.com/events.asp?id=64

Ah... your eyes are better now ;).

To get better faster, you need to learn to read and loop a variety of spins, sometimes with control and more spin, sometimes with power and more speed. The key reason why getting a good control loop helps is that being able to put spin on the ball against an opponent who is not ready to go...

Sure we can agree to agree while you keep on pretending to be arguing in good faith. And no, you are not frustrating me. It's always fun to have a chance to speak about something I enjoy speaking about. Even if the person I am speaking to pretends to be listening while they aren't. The other...
