I would say that there is an another option - not only short pips: Why won't you give him a soft slow tacky cheap chinese rubber on the backhand? Some friendship or something like that(not a H3 national ;) ). Why? Because the tackiness helps dealing with spin a lot and when the rubber is tacky...

If you have enough patience you could clear the rubber from the glue but it's not fun at all :) As an OX user I found out that not all water based glues are strong enough for gluing OX pimples. For example Revolution #3 wasn't strong enough for me and the Yasaka Norisuke san worked just fine...

I would recommend Rakza 7 or 9 for rubbers. 9 is just a little faster with the same topsheet.. The X version is just.. I didn't like it - the topsheet is very soft (not for me). but I know a lot of players that like the X very much.
