  1. "Euro" vs "Chinese" Play Style

Epid3xia, I'm not sure how long you've been playing, but I am going to assume that you have been playing several years at least and already have a solid foundation in modern offensive table tennis. I will also assume that part of the reason you started the thread is because you believe that if...
  2. "Euro" vs "Chinese" Play Style

This is what high school basketball is like in much of the US, including the enthusiasm of the crowd. Places that care about something a lot tend to be better at it. I have actually visited provincial training centers in China. They are factories. Good players only come from those places...
  3. "Euro" vs "Chinese" Play Style

I suspect there is something significant in the way the very top Chinese players hit the ball that is worth copying for some people. Just as the Chinese learned in the late 90s-early 00s that they needed to develop players a little differently than they had before, I think European coaches will...
  4. "Euro" vs "Chinese" Play Style

Although this talk about style (like how straight your arm should be) is anti-zen and makes for bad table tennis. Read this. http://www.kendo.org.uk/files/TheUnfetteredMind.pdf Advice from a zen monk to a Samurai swordmaster, late 16th century. Then train your technique until it is not...
  5. "Euro" vs "Chinese" Play Style

Also, I suspect that we will seeing European players emerging that look a bit more like Chinese players. In some ways Werner Schlager had some of that already in the early 2000s.
  6. "Euro" vs "Chinese" Play Style

It is funny here, a local Chinese coach is definitely emphasizing chicken wing for me (but relaxed and with good hip rotation), even though his 14 year olds are swinging harder. I like this guy a lot. He is not a one-size-fits-all coach.
  7. "Euro" vs "Chinese" Play Style

My only response is that even though I don't move as fast as I used to, I am not blind and can see how other people manage to beat themselves -- often when I am watching other people's matches. Know that as you get older you have to learn to exploit opponent's weaknesses. One I see a lot is...
  8. "Euro" vs "Chinese" Play Style

That's good if it works for you, but you need to be young and athletic and have perfect footwork to go with it. Otherwise you will find yourself off balance a lot for the next shot. It is not a style that IMHO lends itself to amateur play.
  9. All my skill, GONE!

Most important think is don't get frustrated. Just be systematic. KNOW that it will come back. Because it will.
  10. All my skill, GONE!

Check out the TT Edge app. Will get your eyes used to tracking and you do it in bed or on your couch.
  11. DISCUSSION: Will ITTF switch back to celluloid balls if plastic balls failed?

The ITTF never fails! Signed, ITTF p.s. While the ITTF never fails, others fail the ITTF.
  12. All my skill, GONE!

    Sooner than you think.
  13. "Euro" vs "Chinese" Play Style

It is certainly possible that the Chinese approach to stroke production is in some ways "better". But how do you weigh in contribution of other factors? Is it possible that if you took a talented young 12 year old European player and subjected him to the same intensity of training regimen...
  14. Would these be perfect for table tennis?

I think these would be good. They are not very flexible, though. So if you like to dig your toes in, these are not the best.
  15. players who win by "oficio"

    FOrgotten about that one.
  16. Difference between a 2100 and a professional?

Yep. That kind of illustrates it. It's no one thing. It's everything.
  17. Stefan Fegerl Interview

I like him a lot too for many reasons. Given your comment on the 2100 vs 2500 thread, though, I am a bit surprised you are a fan, since there have been flame wars through various table tennis forums about whether he hides the ball or not while serving. (I think his serve is very effective and...
  18. Difference between a 2100 and a professional?

He knows! This guy knows exactly what he is doing. Anyway, if you look at the rest of what he is doing, you get the idea of what I mean about just seeing stuff really early.
  19. Difference between a 2100 and a professional?

Actually, there is a lower level of this guy who lives in my town; lefty penholder, except uses short pips. He was US Over-50 National Champion about 10 years ago or thereabouts, was about 2280 then (definitely not as good as this guy). He is my worst table tennis nightmare. I rarely take...
