  1. How to serve practise

At that age, table height can make quite a few serves hard. And, importantly, most kids I see have a rather strong hand preference, BH mostly. It takes a while to connect the two. It depend on play level and touch development too. I often end up with teaching a BH serve with varied placement...
  2. Incredible SPEED 2019 Tabletennis Compilation

    You gotta axe TheGugl dat.
  3. Marvellous 12 2019

All said and done, the same holds for nearly all players (male or female) outside CNT and JNT. Yet you can train and be coached all you want, the ultimate step needed to up yourself to the next level is actually confronting that level of competition. To be challenged at that level, to adapt to...
  4. Best rubbers for Viscaria?

    Gewo Thunderball 2. Seriously good.
  5. Marvellous 12 2019

What catches my eye is the surprising uneven glue and/or boost job. With the margins being so small, might that not make a small (detrimental) difference?
  6. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Yet participating requires not only signing off yourself and what's yours to the Empire that Eats Souls, but surrendering three of your friends to it too. It may not be easy, but we should start putting a stop to the scheme of abuse also known as Facebook.
  7. ULF BENGTSSON Passes Away

Certainly sad. Seen him play (and play Grubba, that time not coming out on top), and I admired his distinctive style, lefhanded, aggressively opening up and always ready to step in for the kill. Flicks, powerful spin on both wings, but also a positively lethal flat kill; a beautiful game. The...
  8. Michael Maze and Kalinikos Kreanga confirmed for WTTC

Well, let's see what happens. Japanese TT seems to have rebounced quite nicely from its post-sixties/seventies slum. And with the UK diving into shameful isolation, recession and attrition may offer new impulses. Because in that downward spiral it might be just dance, and drink, and screw, and...
  9. Michael Maze and Kalinikos Kreanga confirmed for WTTC

I actually think we agree. I also cheer if there is a new batch of young, hungry players raising the game to a next level. It's also what happens. Things come and go. Tennis used to be popular, now it's less so, and the waiting lists have migrated over to hockey. Sweden had its stretch a...
  10. Michael Maze and Kalinikos Kreanga confirmed for WTTC

Yes, I recall that as well. Do you see a causal relationship between having players with longevity and lack of development in young players? I don't, necessarily. However, perhaps it does take a great one like Stellan Bengtsson to nourish a next generation of players, and be eclipsed by them...
  11. Everything you need to know: ITTF Presidency 2017!

There's knowing, and then there's knowing and be able to produce proof. We knew Nixon was a crook in '71, but still it took a few years, and even now that news doesn't have seemed to reach the general audience pervasively.
  12. Michael Maze and Kalinikos Kreanga confirmed for WTTC

How old was Persson when he did his Olympic comeback and made it to the semifinals? Was that 2008 at 42? (Or is memory playing tricks on me, and that never happened?)
  13. Dumb question on rubber

1.8mm rubbers definitely do exist. I've played Vega Pro in that thickness on BH, but that's not exceptional. The process of sponge cutting apperently has substantial tolerances. I don't think a 0.1mm variation in sponge thickness matters all that much in practice, even 0.2mm is a minor (but...
  14. Everything you need to know: ITTF Presidency 2017!

Due diligence, I would assume. Perhaps after a certain amount of swamp drainage.
  15. Everything you need to know: ITTF Presidency 2017!

Sometime's there's a reason for necromancy. Here it is. I just read https://www.ittf.com/2019/03/15/ittf-executive-committee-statement-former-president-mr-adham-sharara/, about the suspension of Adham Shahara "for inappropriate misconduct" and couldn't help but think the winds did change...

I suspect NL meant Moristo SP.
  17. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

A few game patterns, and some free play. Key is to get sharp, so: real match-level serves and receives. Patterns I always include (with a coöperating partner): Warmup off the table: - Rope jumps (typically without a rope) - High knees - Lateral and forward/backward steps/hops (ladder like) -...
  18. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Startup problems are quite common indeed. Whenever I can, I try to be there 30-45 minutes before the match, do a good warmup off the table, a bit of warmup at the table and then a few minimatches (games of 5, alternating serves) with my team mates to get sharp.
  19. Michael Maze and Kalinikos Kreanga confirmed for WTTC

Kreanga is 47 (just had his birthday). About four years senior to Samsonov.
  20. Recognise the player in black?

Unmistakable posture and movement! Must be 10-15 years ago?
