Used to be best of 7 for the World Tour, known as Pro Tour back then. Starting in 2013, the ITTF changed it to best of 5 for doubles, partly because of China's dominance. The gap was so wide back then the outcome was more often than not 4-0. People lost interest by the time it got to 3-0.

Badminton uses the hawk-eye system like Tennis. Volleyball uses a multi-camera system to review questionable shots/calls from different angles. This one could work for table tennis.
