Noticed an extremely funny pattern recently. I will condition people to pop up my serve, which works without fail, then receive a stupidly spinny, head-high ball that I'll fail to land a smash on. A decade ago I'd just smack them away with a straight arm, but now I'm timid and bend the elbow a...

Played a bit vs relatively low-skill players (U1200? Whatever is the cutoff for casual players) and I'm starting to be able to control the game in a relaxed way again. Pushing short and low mid-rally, dropshots, fake loops with no spin, really spinny loops that land just in front of the net and...
  3. Which ESN (or Jap) rubber is closest to H3 orange provincial (non NEO)?

So just like H3 manufactured in the last few years? :P
  4. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I can do about 8. Maybe 10 on a good day. Does that at least get me a picture of a blade? :P
  5. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Does bouncing the ball on the bottom of the handle count? Totally not posting this because that's the only trick I do on my breaks and I have an unfair advantage.

Tenergy is not 33 Shore O because that's not how this works at all. The only time you can compare scales is when you're measuring a rubber brick that has no progression whatsoever. These 2mm thick elastomers with complex air cavity geometry are really far from that. Especially Spring Sponge. To...
  7. Which ESN (or Jap) rubber is closest to H3 orange provincial (non NEO)?

Sanwei Target 3rd gen Provincial is probably closer to boosted H3 than a lot of things. I've tried the National blue sponge but not enough to really have an opinion. I'm sure that's closer still. However the spin quality is objectively lower, and they have issues with the surface becoming...

Scales are not directly comparable on nonlinear elastomers. Even on Chinese rubber the methodology doesn't add up, and a 40A sponge can measure 40A but measure anywhere from 49 to 55 O typically. Dignics sponge measures 46 and is reported as a 40, so with the less progressive Tenergy sponge, at...

Have you measured these? Measured Tenergy 05 comes out as Shore A 23.5-ish. I haven't got a Shore O measurement, but I really find it unlikely that it's that much harder in a scale that sinks the needle less. Don't trust the numbers people say online; they're not consistent with real...

What part specifically is unclear? Are you also serving simple to that 1850 TTR kid? He is returning balls in a pretty mundane way that you have a lot of problems with. My point is that if you served with more backspin quality, and low and short enough that he won't just loop all of them, the...

Maybe I'll need to try both. Cost isn't really a huge issue (although paying less is always better :) ) but Dignics and Tenergy are more than what I need and probably more than optimal. Moon Speed S what I use currently is adequate, but I need to change at some point. That being said I think my...

At the risk of sounding very pretentious, and with a disclaimer that Zezima's playing level is higher than mine so he can choose to care or not care about what I think: Looking at that opener video, a lot of the time you lift the ball by opening the angle a bit and pushing the elbow upwards and...

Have you used Dignics 05 on the backhand, and how would you compare the Rozena to it if you have? I liked Dignics a lot, but it was a touch too rapid for what I need. The spin quality was really nice, though, even on a worn sheet.
  14. Pre Season Training & Matches

Okay, fair. That's the kind of ball I'm talking about. It's ideal to loop, because it's fast enough to get some pace off and has high enough spin to get friction off. You can also quite easily condition them into popping it up if they stop reading it and you change the spin amount or axis...
  15. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

It's basically a counterloop close to table. I have time to do a full backswing although you don't need a lot because the spin and pace on the ball is halfway there. I also don't take them right on the bounce, I stand a little bit further backward and let it travel a bit more. They're most of...

Starting to consistently punish heavy long top/side serves again. The main key for me is backswinging above the table and not being afraid of it. A lot of lower rated players don't really have a gameplan other than "serve heavy and deep", so it's good to get outright winners off them. Also...

You do you. I found it fine. Boosts just as well as anything else ie: 3.0 O per 1 layer.
  18. Pre Season Training & Matches

Could be a player specific thing then. I reckon if you serve heavy short backspin, you will get a lot more heavy push returns. Yours isn't light per-se but it's not really heavy enough to force a backspin return IMO. Maybe I'm talking out of my ass, but that's what I've found serving even to...

If you're okay with non-Neo and 2.15mm, you can buy H3 P BS for quite a bit cheaper from Global Sports Store.
  20. Forehand swing/stroke

That's pretty normal for 1.5 years. It took me about 3-4 years to start getting any kind of relaxation in my game. 88% is really good even for the lowest league level at your playing time! Not sure I've ever heard of anyone with that kind of rate for their first league.
