  1. Sabine Winter switches to antispin

I think at the time it was a reasonable assertion. But I'm happy to be wrong in this case. Being able to pivot if the facts reveal it's needed is a strength rather than a weakness.
  2. Sabine Winter switches to antispin

Man, it's been a rough week for the Tiebans.
  3. Singapore Smash 2026, Singapore, 2/19-3/1

Are you still trying to convince everyone that Hirano was better than Hayata in the Paris cycle and still better in this cycle? This despite the fact that Hayata won multiple All Japans, dominated the selection race, and beat SYB *with an injured playing arm*... the very same SYB that Hirano...
  4. Thread about Japanese Players

I don't follow figure skating, but I did catch some of it at the Winter Olympics because of the great sportsmanship and camaraderie between the USA and Japan so I found it interesting that Hina referenced how she was inspired by USA gold medalist Alyssa Liu: Hina Hayata reveals her thoughts...
  5. Singapore Smash 2026, Singapore, 2/19-3/1

Didn't watch it live due to timezone difference, but what an amazing win for Hina over KM 13-11 in the decider! Tiebans have a lot of explaining to do.
  6. Singapore Smash 2026, Singapore, 2/19-3/1

In the final game, WYD served every ball fast and deep into Mima's SP BH eliciting a relatively weak bh counter giving WYD the immediate advantage. She was also able to take advantage of Mima's inconsistent FH.
  7. Sabine Winter switches to antispin

Still throwing shade at Sabine I see.
  8. Nagasaki: "I've never liked table tennis that much to begin with..." (#1169)

I don't think Odo has to feel stupid about anything. It's rather unfortunate that selection trial was literally the day after SC Chennai ends. Winning a Star Contender is no joke. And certainly beating Miu Hirano 4-0 in the finals is no joke. I think it's fine that they chose Miyu Nagasaki...
  9. Singapore Smash 2026, Singapore, 2/19-3/1

Nagasaki is going to need all the intel she can get on SYB. Miyu has lost their last 5 encounters.
  10. Singapore Smash 2026, Singapore, 2/19-3/1

HZJ has been the bane of the Japanese women. Multiple times it looked like it was headed downhill for Hina, but somehow she pulled it off 13-11 in the decider. Congratulations to Hina!
  11. Nagasaki: "I've never liked table tennis that much to begin with..." (#1169)

It's a tough selection between Nagasaki and Odo, and unfortunately someone had to be dropped. I can see a case being made for either one. Satsuki just won the SC Chennai title. But Nagasaki had that big win over WYD at the Asian Cup.
  12. Singapore Smash 2026, Singapore, 2/19-3/1

I have to side with Poret on this one. Poret was actually in the receive stance when Uda suddenly goes up to the front of the table and wipes his hand on the table. Poret then does the same as players usually do. Awful call by the umpire.
  13. Singapore Smash 2026, Singapore, 2/19-3/1

Lily is through to the next round beating SXN 3-1. Admirable effort from Sally earlier today, but she lost to Sabine Winter.
  14. Cleanest serves in Table Tennis - Benedikt Duda

A dying breed, but most, if not all pro choppers, use clean backhand serves.
  15. Thread about Japanese Players

A fun series of handicap matches between Miu Hirano and Japanese girl band AKB48
  16. Singapore Smash 2026, Singapore, 2/19-3/1

Not gonna give even a little credit to Adriana?
  17. Singapore Smash 2026, Singapore, 2/19-3/1

I hope it doesn't get lost in the discussion of Adriana's ranking that what she's accomplished in her career so far is downright amazing. Who would have thought a girl from an island with very little in the way of table tennis resources (even less so than the USA) would make it to top 20 in the...
  18. Thread about Japanese Players

Yeah, it appears to be same NOC only. I updated my post to include the section I missed which is a 2nd quota for pairs in top 8 XD world ranking. So a bit surprising that Japan isn't testing out a Odo/Uda or Odo/Shinozuka pairing to go along with the Sora/Miwa pairing in Singapore. Perhaps the...
  19. Thread about Japanese Players

From the qualification website Scroll to the Qualification system - Table Tennis https://www.olympics.com/ioc/documents/olympic-games/los-angeles-2028-olympic-games It looks to me that they are defining eligible pairs as being from the same NOC. Reposting XD qualification section here...
  20. Singapore Smash 2026, Singapore, 2/19-3/1

After Miyuu taking the title at 2025 SC Muscat, it has been pretty rough. She lost to Shibata at 2026 SC Doha. Then lost to Huang Yu-Jie at SC Chennai though it's possible that she bowed out early so she could attend the WTTTC selection trial. But she loses to 17 yr old, Mao Takamori, at the...
