  1. Feedback on my League games

While I don't love the D09c/HL5 pairing the difference you're perceiving is all technical. I've tried a whole bunch of rubbers on the HL5/W968, the technique doesn't vary that much, just slight adjustments here and there. Didn't you boost your first pair of D09cs? Are you still boosting? Hope...
  2. Forehand Topspin Like Ma Long | 5 Tips

Right, and the issue is that @Dan keeps his arm rather stiff from elbow onward, throughout the stroke. I believe he does it for both FH and BH, and is a big reason why his shots have a lot less power than other TTD members because he has very solid body usage otherwise. His wrist is never fully...
  3. Forehand Topspin Like Ma Long | 5 Tips

It's not a bat angle thing, it's the wrist movement that causes those differences. If you keep your wrist loose and snap at contact then it should be in-line with the arm before contact and be at 45+ degrees afterwards. Those 2 pics in the thumbnail are presumably taken at different point of...

So I'm continuing to make progress with my FH, but my improvements on the BH side is what's been raising my level. My defense is now pretty solid, winning me a lot of points. My BH opening loops are solid now too, and service receives have been improving. Not being afraid of getting attacked...
  5. best tt shoe?

I second that, got a Li-Ning 41 (US 8) and it was more like 7.5. OTOH I have a pair of Mizunos that are like US 8 and it felt a bit loose. Incidentally the Li-Nings have thicker insoles so I swapped insoles between them and now they're both wearable, though the Mizunos are still larger.
  6. How do I improve my backhand? (closed)

Wrist snap is not the most important, most important is forearm snap. Try to generate good quality and get the feeling of holding the ball and releasing it with minimal wrist usage first. Just keep your wrist loose and then tighten up right at impact, use primarily the forearm swing (i.e...
  7. WTT Singapore Smash 2025 (30 Jan ~ 9 Feb 2025)

Yeah he used to have a weak FH, but he's improved it a lot the past few months. He now has a much more forward FH stroke in rallies and is able to get his body into the stroke much more. His biggest enemy in the immediate future will be video reviews, which will put a stop to his hidden shovel...
  8. How do I improve my backhand? (closed)

Relax your grip, let the ball come to you more. Just bounce a ball on the table and then do a BH shot. The distance that feels the most comfortable to you is the distance you should try to hit every ball at. Adult learners have issue with this because we often start our journey blocking with...
  9. WTT Singapore Smash 2025 (30 Jan ~ 9 Feb 2025)

I think she played in the last contender. The CNT just has too much talent. Kuai Man got the wildcard spot over her, presumably by beating her in said tournament (3-2 in Muscat). If you left out KM in favor of SXY then you might have people crying about how the CNT doesn't value merit 🤭
  10. WTT Singapore Smash 2025 (30 Jan ~ 9 Feb 2025)

Yeah he played really well, some real clutch shots at the end! WCQ played like a teenager, eager to finish points at the end of sets and end up missing if not outright whiffing on relatively easy balls.
  11. WTT Singapore Smash 2025 (30 Jan ~ 9 Feb 2025)

Well, you have to look from their perspective. For most of them, since before their birth, just about all major tournament finals have been between two Chinese players. If they just root for China, there would be no stakes in the most important match. Having a hierarchy to their fandom gives...
  12. WTT Singapore Smash 2025 (30 Jan ~ 9 Feb 2025)

Tough loss for LYJ. He doesn't have enough variations in his game to beat LSD. LSD doesn't have much variations either, and that's a weakness that needs to be exploited. LYJ can only match him speed for speed, except he has less power, and that's just not a good match up.
  13. WTT Singapore Smash 2025 (30 Jan ~ 9 Feb 2025)

ZYL hasn't won a single match against a CNT member since her comeback, losing to non-core players like Kuai Man and Wang Xiaotong. Good enough to be on the CNT? Sure. Good enough to represent the CNT regularly on the international circuit? No. Did you ever consider what ZYL wants? Does she...
  14. What's the weight of your setup and what's the ideal weight of your setup?

That information is not as helpful as it might seem. People use vastly different amount of booster and glue per layer, so unless he can quantify exactly how much he uses for booster and glue then it's not very helpful.
  15. What's the weight of your setup and what's the ideal weight of your setup?

That's not how it works though. According to the Tiefenbacher study, at lower speeds, the same racket with rubbers on both sides and hanging on a pendulum is significantly faster than one without a rubber on the back side and is fixed in place, suggesting that the local weight (i.e. around the...
  16. HOT DAMN !!! This coach teaches FH Slow/Heavy loop exactly every key point Der_Echte values !!!

I think the precondition of assuming a short service first is that you need to be able to judge the ball correctly before you touch the ball, so that you can pull your hand back to to loop it if you judge it to be long. The idea here is that if you prepare to loop and it turns out to be short...
  17. HOT DAMN !!! This coach teaches FH Slow/Heavy loop exactly every key point Der_Echte values !!!

If you can't judge the ball then you need to work on that. There's no way around it, it's the first step to any successful stroke.
  18. HOT DAMN !!! This coach teaches FH Slow/Heavy loop exactly every key point Der_Echte values !!!

The teachings from their channel can be helpful, but just don't take them literally. They've all been trained since they were little kids, they learned by feel, so they're teaching you by feel. The key in this stroke is to let the ball fall significantly before looping. It's a safe stroke which...

I've been doing some more training this week. The FH is still a work in progress, even in training I easily forget some elements of my new form, seems primarily the right-to-left rotation as I still tend to do a lot of low to high movement. Overall improving, however. I think FH loops from...
