Never heard of Ham Yu Song of DPRK until today, yet the chap is absolutely world class. This makes me so sad.

My team, the STK Srdoci 1, won our first match at the Croatian "HEP Superleague" yesterday, 3-2, after being down 2-1 and facing a match point. We started the championship with two back-to-back defeats, though we were burdened with injuries. Still are, sadly.

Holy cow, the final game of the bronze medal match was epic! Go Lilly! Also, the camera work is absolutely phenomenal, and I'd say, a huge slap in the face of the travesty that was the German Open coverage.

I don't buy it. Simultaneous coverage from multiple tables has been common for years, and we've rarely experienced annoyances of this magnitude. Certainly not in the last couple of years.

The grey ones from DHS look nice as well, but it still has a lot more to do with the lighting and camera angles relative to the light source. Last year's German Open was played on Donic tables which have a lighter matte blue surface, and it looked absolutely perfect:

The shade of blue and the finish that Butterfly uses on their tables is excellent, and it had nothing to do with us having trouble making out the ball.

This is a serious problem. Many refs hesitate to enforce the service rules because they don't want to stir shit and draw attention to themselves. These sharp shadows on the floor and on the table still absolutely baffle me. I mean, compare that to last year's German open: Minimal shadows and virtually no glare. The ball is in excellent contrast from the table top. Someone messed up royally this year. Pretty inexcusable for an event...

I've been using non-abrasive disinfectant on my rubbers for a long time now. It preserves the grip nicely, and my last pair of rubbers was still grippy as hell when I threw them into trash.

Tim Bergling, AKA Avicii died today. For the longest time his song "Wake Me Up" was basically the unofficial anthem of the ITTF World Tour, always playing in between matches. Every time I hear it on the radio, I think of table tennis.
