  1. TableTennisDaily vs Pongfinity | BIGGEST MATCH EVER!

Didn't Emil get hurt and that is why he started chopping?
  2. Long pips vs spaghetti-string tennis racket.

OK, the real ban should have been sponged up rubber back in the late 50s. THAT is what began the technology that has plagued the sport. Hardbat contest were tactical and athletic and creative. Sponge came along and opened the door to all the types of madness we now face. Don't get me wrong - I...
  3. Short pips for BH topspin (philosophising:D)

I've been playing with Spinfire, and it is a lot of fun. Good spin on serves, can loop with it, good flat hit. Might be worth a look.
  4. Skills to beat 1400-1500 level players?

Depends how much time you have to practice. I saw a WRM video a few weeks ago that advocated if you have limited time to practice, practice limited a number of skills. They recommended a good underpin serve short, a good spinny push, and attacking against underspin. With those three skills, you...
  5. Why are all the best choppers right handed? Is there a disadvantage as a chopper if you’re left handed?

We had a good discussion on this topic a bunch of years ago - https://www.tabletennisdaily.com/forum/topics/have-there-been-any-world-class-left-handed-choppers.10289/#post-109120
  6. What do you think of Yuna Ojio's style?

Yuna's style actually reminds me a bit of Falck's. She crushes forehand with her pips, and spins well with her backhand. The backhand might allow her to produce some wicked spins that would be very effective and set up her forehand. It'll be fun to see her progress, and see if her grip catches on.
  7. Spinfire short pips – @WRM-TV

I think the blade it is on affects performance a bit I switched to a stiffer blade and it is much more like short pips and fast, but you can still loop a good bit.
  8. Nasty rubber setup, another great ERT video

Why must the "standard" always be spinny inverted? Why not go back to hardhat, or everyone play with pips? It's not like all the inverted rubbers are the same, either.
  9. Videos of pros with short pips on backhand for playing tactics?

Johnny Huang was one of the best pips out attackers and had such a pretty style. Though in the 38 mm ball era, I think his strokes and tactics are still relevant. Here is a restored video of him in '98: There are several other videos from that tournament, including his victory over Walder in...
  10. Short pimple recommendations

Not too much of a wobbly effect. Just gives you lots of options of how to hit a ball.
  11. Short pimple recommendations

I have bee playing with Spinfire 1.9 for about a month and really like it. Spinny enough to loop well, but short pippy enough to flat hit.
  12. STIGA Cybershape Wood CWT Review

I have an oldish paddle, I think made by Gambler, called Black Whirlwind, that had a weight in the handle you could move up and down with a little key attachment. Was supposed to change the center of gravity - weight close to the end of the handle was different than when the weight was close to...
  13. World Rubber Market YouTube Channel

WRM is a great channel with good content. Lots of new info every week.
  14. Rubbers / blades used by earliest choppers after sponge

I know Takashima used inverted on both sides. Not sure of the specifics.
  15. Penhold or lefty choppers

There was a thread on this a few years ago, and the consensus was that being left handed is a great advantage for attackers (many more left handers in the top 100 than is reflected in the population), but essentially no left handed choppers in the pros. Tough to know exactly why.
  16. Table tennis surfaces…

I have thought having hardbat and sandpaper events kinda parallels the different court surfaces in tennis, but it is the paddle surface, not the table surface, that varies. Unlikely anyone would win a grand slam of the three options (hardhat, sandpaper, and sponged)
  17. WTT Champions (European Summer Series 2022)

I find it odd that Ma Long loses to a European player and there is no discussion on this board. It at least warrants a question about his equipment :)
  18. Playing with or without glasses...

I have had two cataracts replaced and wear progressive lenses. They were a bit of problem for TT, as the area of vision that was in focus was quite small. So I had my ophthalmologist prescribe single vision lenses that makes things in good focus at about 10 feet. Seems to work for playing, but...
  19. Do you use motivational self talk?

The research on self-talk is iffy on positive or motivational self-talk having much effect on performance. Negative self-talk likely has a negative effect. The best self-talk is instructional self-talk, as it helps focus on relevant things to do. Bottom line, whatever works for you.
