My TT friend tore his ACL on one knee about 6 - 8 months ago. After surgery, he was supposed to rest for at least 6 months, but in his case, after only 3 months he started playing again (with knee brace) and changed his BH to pips (so he did not have to run around, he said). But this is a best case scenario.

When I hurt my knee the first time (long time ago), I consulted a doctor and he said that usually after such surgery, you need to rest at least 6 - 9 months, before being active again. This was 20 - 25 years ago, I don't know if current advancement in medical procedures can cut this period shorter.

One of my clients, who used to be a national basketball player, had full knees replacement (on both knees). It took him exactly 9 months to fully recover. He could move around quite freely after 6 months but he did not want to take any chances by playing any sports.

So my answer is based on experiences of others. I hope it helps you.
