Boll Spirit Alternatives

The Baum Esprit has a much thicker core than TBS. Also the composite layer is Aramid Carbon instead of ALC. I have both but Baum in Cpen and TBS in ST and also different rubbers so it is hard to compare.

I opened the wrapping a few minutes ago and the layers between the carbon layers are "only" 0,2mm thicker than those of the Boll Spirit.
According to my chemistry professor Aramid Carbon is type of fiber which is only a bit harder than Arylate-Carbon.
I'll test the Baum Esprit in practice today and afterwards I'll give you a feedback about the differences of the two blades.

There is no replacement for TBS, it is eternal. ( I used it for a few years as main blade and ALWAYS went back to it after testing other blades. ) There are a few Nexy blades that play close enough and do the same things (control, feel and power when you need it) even the Tibhar Inca (designed by Nexy President as he has close ties with Tibhar) is a good one, but they are all over your price range. Nexy Calix and Arirang are two great new composite blades that come to mind, but they are not cheap blades.

I would say suck it up and get another TBS, heavy as you can find.

As an experiment, try to get the famous Galaxy 896 or a KTL Instinct or Instinkt + and modify it. How? Scrape off both of the handles and fill in the empty carved out hollow space with something heavier than air ! You can cut off some nails the right length and glue them in. (That is what I did my last time) You can simply just fill in the space with wood glue or hide glue. I did that with a Calix and it was greatness before I broke it in a match. I am hell on blades when I was in Korea.

These blades are ALL+ to OFF- in speed class with great control and ability to spin up the ball, but are not very fast blades. You have better control than the TBS with them stock, but you will be forced to make a lot more connecting shots in a match. That is not a bad thing to grow your game, but maybe you do not want to do that. So this mod will add both weight LOW in the blade, will IMPROVE the balance and also the feel. The best thing is it bumps up the speed one class to make it a LOT closer to TBS speed. You will not have the exact feel, but you can have a blade that does a lot of what TBS does well really cheaply.

Nexy will prolly want to disown me for what I just said, but I mean it. You can play great with very inexpensive setups. I do it every time I am in between tests or when main blade is wounded. I play great with their blades and do not stretch anything when I say they are great stuff. They are not the only great stuff out there, but they are indeed great and different for the rest by a country mile.

Do what is right for you with what you know and want. Remember, business is the art of making people want stuff they do not need or just to simply want them to get something more than they need. Every business on this planet excels at this. It is not necessarily a bad thing. Being satisfied can have its worth. Just do not become an E.J. :)

If the Boll is really irreplaceable, and the Donic Blade doesn't fit with my style of play, I won't have a choice execpt buying the Boll Spirit again.

Agreed that you can play great with inexpensive setups.
Faster and expensive equipment is not necessarily better
Remember the speed glue era??
Many players did not bother to speed glue their mark v or sriver or bryce but still played reasonably good. But nowadays the same players cannot live without tensors. What happened?

After I tried the Baum Esprit in practice I have to say that there are some small differences.

In terms of blocking the feeling you get is fairly equal, although the Boll Spirit, like I suggested, has a little bit softer feeling due to the Arylate-Carbon.
But this small difference in stiffness produces quite a difference in terms of counterspining near and far from the table, cause the Esprit hasn't got as much control as the Boll Spirit.
If you hit the ball perfectly with the Esprit your shot is certainly faster as if you do it with the BTY-blade, but with the Esprit you can't use the spin of the opponent to your advantage (e.g counterspin near the table) as easy as with the Boll Spirit, and that is not good for my style of play, so I have to buy a new Boll Spirit.

If the Boll Spirit is perfect for you, you won't find anything like it man. Better spend a little more and buy the blade you really like, rather than spending money on something meh.

Obviously, I really have no option other than to buy a new Boll Spirit.
But the Baum, if you haven't adjusted to a Boll Spirit or other great but expensive blades yet, is, for those who don't want to spend much money for a blade, a really a great fit.

When you have something you really like, you will save yourself more money by just getting what you want rather than trying something else that is supposed to be like it and then buying the thing you originally wanted in the first place.

It is too bad you did not just get the TB Spirit since that is what you really want.

But since you already got the Baum Esprit, you should play with it for 1 month before deciding you will get another TB Spirit. If after a month, you have not gotten used to the Baum Esprit, then get a TB Spirit. If you start thinking the Esprit is good enough, use it until it is getting old and then get the TB Spirit and you will have yourself a back up blade that you are already used to that is similar to the TB Spirit and a nice new TB Spirit.

After playing my last three practice-sessions with the Baum Esprit i got used to the blade, but only because I'm playing with softer rubbers now, namely with TSP-Ventus Soft on the FH and Ventus Spin on BH instead of Xiom Vega Pro on BH and Ventus Spin on FH. That combination seems to suit to my playing style even better than the old combination including the Boll Spirit.

Now, that, is awesome. So, with the right rubbers, the new setup works even better for you than the old. Sweet. I am glad.
