Four members of Table Tennis England have been suspended from the sport following a complex international investigation into match fixing and unusual betting activity in the sport.

Luke Savill, Darius Knight, Joseph Langham-Ferreira and Kazeem Adeleke appeared before the Disciplinary Committee for breaches of the TTE Anti-Corruption Regulations relating to betting on table tennis matches.

Yes, they were throwing games in Ukraine in 2020 and then betting on the results. Not sure which event..

I only know of Darius out of the 4 players involved, such a waste of talent.

This 'gambling disorder' nonsense as a ploy for leniency should be ignored. He knew exactly what he was doing, didn't care about the consequences to others and wasn't just gambling, he was fixing matches.

since sport betting is huge and they bet on everything.

you do get bookies getting hold of players to fix matches.
we do a lot of training on this part.

Can confirm, pretty much all the lower level leagues are full of this, happens on a bigger level too, I know one very high profile Asian player who threw a match a few years ago for a huge payout, obviously not going to say who

but the problem is, the bookies who does these unethically things, should be the least expected person to honor a secret.

but the problem is, the bookies who does these unethically things, should be the least expected person to honor a secret.

it's not even that simple. Bookies have to report their activities a r results and those activities (trades) are monitored by gambling commissions in most countries.
It's really very easy to spot unusual activity, especially in a minority sport like TT. Any spike in amount gambled on particular match, for or against particular opponent will stick out like a sore thumb.
That triggers them to examine the match and check the flow of points V the flow of money.
At that stage you're screwed!

it still happens, despite all the mechanism in place.
especially in sports where the a levels are deemed unknown in the real sporting worlds.
this is why players should not bet on sports too, even if it is other sports.

of course proper audits, you would find out which matches are fixed.
but end of the day, you find one, but how many was missed.

players just need to know ethics comes before performance, else you end up in the news for the wrong reason and also face the music.

This has happened before in some pretty prominent leagues. With respect to some of the smaller games where people can bet on-line, my advice is don't. A lot of these matches are fixed with the participants told beforehand who is allowed to win and lose.

FWIW, Ukraine, Russia and Germany were most reported between 2020 and 2021 (double-digit), Poland and Germany in 2022, Czechia in 2023 and 2024.
