Wow, that looks amazing! It must be so exciting for kids to play in such a wonderful venue.

By the way, do you have any idea where I can find information about local tournaments in Taiwan next summer? My son is 10 y.o. and has been playing TT for 2 years. He has taken part in several local tournaments in Spain and really loves competing. We are going to Taiwan next August and it would be a great experience for him to play against Taiwanese players.

Thank you!!

Hi Dave,
Is it Aug 2023, or Aug 2024?

How is your son's l
Can you send me some videos on private message of your son playing?

Taiwan will have summer vacations between july to august. There will be a lot of training.
I don't follow the elementary school tournament schedule (only high schools), so I don't know off hand. I will need to find out.

How long will your visit be?
Looking to train too, or just to play tournaments?

Thanks for your answer, TTT. We’re planning to visit Taiwan from late July to early September 2023. My son will be doing some training too. Last year he trained in a small club in Taichung with a group of kids and he will probably enroll in the same club next August, this time maybe with a personal coach. My son’s level is average for kids who have been learning for one and a half years. According to his coaches, he is developing a solid technique basis. But still lacks consistency. I’ll try to send you a video on PM.

He has participated in kids tournaments and also in very amateur adult ones. He actually enjoys playing against adults as he feels that playing styles are very different and he has to face a wider diversity of techniques and tactics – most kids play only topspins or short backspins, while with adults he has played against pips, pushers, heavy backspinners and some very spinny servers, which motivates him to practice more. In any case, if information about summer tournaments is not readily available for you, don’t waste your time; we will ask his coach once we arrive in Taichung.

There are some national tournaments and then you get small club tournaments.
Like the Butterfly Lin tournament is national graded, and people would travel from over all the country to take part.
Are you looking to travel, or looking for something in Taichung only?

I'm based in Taipei. There is almost small club tournaments on a weekly basis. I believe it should be similar in Taichung

Your Taichung coach should know the schedules during that time.
There is 2 months of school holiday, and it is the busiest time for table tennis - so well done in coming in the right time.

There are normally tournaments for kids (same age groups), or opens (by rating).
If you don't get good info from the coach, let me know.
I do know a few coaches in Taichung that would have the answer
