Hey Everyone !! Der_Echte here is inviting everyone in North country to come out and get some more of his rating points in the GVTTC Rochester Open this Saturday Feb 28 of the year 2015 !!!

Link to registration is HERE. http://www.gvttc.com/RocOpen2015

List of who is already registered is HERE. http://www.gvttc.com/RocOpen2015Registrations

I gave away 52 rating points after the tourney got processed and they didn't count the O40 where I did real well. Well, the more points the merrier I say. I lost a boatload and made two finals and I'm looking to three-peat in this tourney. I have lost points in my last several tourneys, but somehow made it to finals at or above my level each time... so is the trend gunna continue? Will everyone push me over the ratings edge so I can be under-rated again?

I am still significantly over-rated and over-bloated, so come on out and get Ur ratings points for free.

I'll have a little bit of gear with me to tryout and I'm a gunna have another good time at this tourney.

I am doing 3 events on Saturday and will be in my sharp looking new Nexy Contrast Kit. I will be easy to spot. Heck, there is over 200+ lbs of me, I won't be hard to miss.

Here is the spy pic of my new Uniform.

Contrast William-sm.jpg

You play a match vs me and you hit a sharp winner by me, I might Exclaim "By-Ya !!" and after I pick up the ball, I might flex my bicep and give you the thumbs up as a tribute. (I did that in my last Finals vid, but no one caught it)

Bring Ur cameras, take a lot of pics (hope I don't break Ur camera lens) and take vids and expose me for my over-rated self.

I see TWO forum members already registered.

I grant permission for anyone to print a letter sized page of my likeness, pin it up to the wall, and practice Ur dart throwing in the dorms & your rec rooms at work.

I will be using the Modified Kanaph Beast with a new sheet of a new rubber I haven't tried yet. (Nexy Demian II+)

Shoot out the word and see if we can cram the TT hall in 10 days...

Abe is gunna go Goo-Ga photo-happy when he unwraps his uniform. Contrast is one squared away looking uniform and I kept the front design for the USA market simple and professional looking. You are gunna like the Peter Pan I sent. You are triple gunna like the HESED bat case. I will have these things with me at Rochester if I got time between matches, I should, I am doing 3 events and likely 12+ matches.

I GOTTA get more pics taken than my last tourney.

Tourney starts in 10 hours, I will drive 2.5 to 3 hrs to get there... STRONG field for open, no way I will even make semis unless someone does a Tanya harding on 3-4 players in teh field, and even then it would be tough to make the semis.

Ask Carl what a Tanya Harding is.

I am in 3 events and have not played since my last tourney, I expect to lose ratings points, but i dont give a crap, in fact, I am making fun of the fact ahead of time. I ost 52 ratings points (a half level !!!) last tourney, but i made it to a SEMIS and TWO Finals in events, one of them the OPEN where I cashed in. Can't beat losing a half level, but making moeny and having a blast.

I will be posting pics to FB and maybe I'll figure out how to do it on Tapatalk/HijackTalk...

Carl... Not a lot of fun. Ball was Joola 40+, one of those seamed Poly Balls and the bounce was every bit as terrible as the seamed ball is billed. I never missed so many shots in my life, except for that night I was at Boston TTC when everyone got a sudden fever and broke out boxes of those Joola Poly Balls. Bounce was ALL OVER THE PLACE. Lighting (too strong in wrong places, reflection, background) at venue made it near impossible to see the ball in many places as well. It was like playing in the dark with flashing strobe light going crazy and using a glow in the dark ball.

I made complaints (muttering to self and anyone around) about the lighting there too. There is a trend in LARGE facilities to use inexpensive high up extremely bright lights. This makes the overall lighting bright enough to operate in, but the distribution of light is poor, the strong light reflects off EVERYTHING, if you have very worn tables (like this venue did) then light bounces off that, most of these venues have a wood floor, so the light bounces very bright off that, the walls are usually same color of the ball and the walls are not matte...

So the endstate is you have all this bright light either direct from teh lights, or reflecting off things... that makes it difficult to see a ball of ANY color. Even worse such light makes gives TERRIBLE contrast, which overpowers the eye, that makes it damned near impossible to pick up the ball at impact, makes for great difficulty in tracking the ball, and creats zones of "Now you see it, now you don't".

The Spartan/Minimal lighting they got at SPiN club is a THOUSAND TIMES better than the venues of my last two tourneys (both HUGE sports halls that had lighting bright both direct, bouncing and poor contrast). I could see and pick up the ball once my eyes adapt after just 15 minutes at SPiN Manhattan... and I am an older dude.

The only positive take away from this tourney is that judging from my last two tourneys in this region... in both Utica/Syracuse area and in Rochester area, some one(s) is attracting younger players to the sport and developing their skill and love for the game. That is gunna make a HUGE difference in the sport in our country down the line. It isn't just one or two younger players that are being developed either.

Bad lighting is the worst for playing TT, one would think that if you host a tournament you would know enough to have good lighting. :/

I am with you, but in USA, only a few people have built their own facility for Table Tennis to control these important factors. Most everyone rents space or shares a facility and there is no practical way to make such places acceptable for TT competition. That is the situation in USA, and yes it is bad. However, there are a LOT more people in USA energized who are making a huge difference and SLOWLY it is changing for better.

On of my opponents from the tourney before this has a son who manages Triangle TTC that is hosting Cary Cup, and the playing conditions there are top rate fit. Samson Dubina played in this tourney, a USA elite amature player. He runs a training academy, he wore professional shirts with his name and logo, he looked the picture of fitness, and handed out fliers for a tourney at his club that also has top rate conditions. Too long a drive for me to either location, 7 and 15 hours respectively, but just the emergence of such places recently is certainly a sign of positive change. We just want it faster and everywhere right now, but it simply isn't gunna happen that way and it will not happen without a lot of us doing positive things that attract new players and a market prepared to be willing to buy into TT in USA. That takes time but the forces driving success in USA for this are prolly at least 10 times better now than a decade ago.

Why does the Der_Echte still have Korea as his location? I hope master Echte doesn't scold me for that.

Nope, I won't scold you and I wont even send a Goon Squad after you for mentioning that. Carl and I have entirely too many Goon Squads after us as it is trying to reclaim those alleged Pro and National versions.

Truth is, I have had that Korea location on there for quite a while and since I left, I have fond memories and would like to keep it as a reminder. Anyway, after I retire this year, I might end up back there, so why do double work?

Bad lighting is lame. Walls and floor also should be a good color to contrast with the ball. Being 50, my eyes can't handle lighting that isn't decent. At Spin I am used to the lighting and over the table it is usually okay. But I like when I can see everything.

The seamed poly balls: I think one of the reasons they are sooooo bad is that the plastic material is so much harder than the celluloid material was, that the seem is noticeably different than the rest of the ball. So when the ball lands on the seem, the bounce is different than when it lands on other parts of the ball. And when it lands on the seam and the seam is at different angles and different spins, the bounce is, again, different. So the bounce is inconsistent.

The hardness of the material on the seam is also the reason they split on the seam so easily. At some point, if the manufacturers don't figure out a remedy, ITTF will end up with some bigger PR problems. Players and clubs don't want to be spending so much money on balls that aren't durable enough to last 2 matches: and those are being called "3 stars"!

The problem with the seamless balls, they play much better, they are decent, they aren't great but they are good enough. But any company that wants to make a seamless ball has to pay a royalty to XSF because Sharara helped them secure a patent on the seamless poly ball before he made the rule that ITTF would use Poly balls. Originally, it was supposed to be only seamless which would have meant a lot $$$ for XSF. The rest of the companies banded together so that they could at least produce their own seamed poly balls.

At least that is how I have been told things went down. So, the ball that is best--the XSF seamless poly ball--has a little bit of dirty politics surrounding it and that has dollar signs at its origin.

So you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. For the most part I will play with celluloid for as long as I can on my own and I, personally, have very little trouble adapting to any of the poly balls.

On the positive side of this issue, at the top pro levels, the rallies are getting longer and more interesting because the top players are having trouble ending points so quickly with how slow the 40+ Poly ball is. Better rallies does mean better viewing pleasure from novice spectators.

By the way, since you mentioned Tanya Harding, I should mention that, when I was in the Circus, and we were in Boston, I think it was 1998, towards the end of the tour, Nancy Kerrigan was at the show and came on to the arena floor during the pre-show, and came to my station and I did not even realize it until she left and another circus performer said, "did you realize that was Nancy Kerrigan?" So I met her and I didn't even know it. :)
