Edge tape issue

I’d probably avoid putting the edge tape directly over the exposed sponge area again. If the tape already managed to pull some adhesive out, moving it around repeatedly is only going to make the problem worse.

For protecting the blade, I’ve had better luck with a thin, flexible edge tape that has relatively mild adhesive rather than the really aggressive stuff. You could also leave a small gap between the rubber and the tape so the tape is actually protecting the blade edge without sticking firmly to the rubber/sponge itself. That makes it much easier to replace later without pulling at the rubber.

For the residue, I wouldn't use anything aggressive on the blade. Gently rubbing the leftover adhesive with your finger usually gets most of it off, and you can then carefully clean the remaining surface with a little isopropyl alcohol on a cloth if the blade's finish allows it. I'd test a tiny inconspicuous area first.

As for the dent, unfortunately edge tape can only do so much. A good quality protector will help with the everyday table knocks, but if you hit the edge hard enough, even a fairly expensive blade is going to show some damage. I'd rather replace the tape when it starts looking worn than keep adjusting it once it's already stuck down.

IF I test new rubbers, I also cut them a 1-2 mm bigger, because it is easier to re-sell the rubber if I do not like it.
But on my main blades I can´t recommend this, because it is easy to remove the rubber accidentally in a game,
if the rubber hits the table.

If you add the edge tape on the complete side, you do not have any problems with the glue and edge tape.
The problem, begins if you want to change only one of the rubbers.
In this case I use a scalpel to remove the edge tape without the glue under the rubber.
Remove the edge tape slowly and each time when you see parts of glue on the edge tape,
use the scalpel to separate the tape from the glue.
