This applies only to the U.S rating system.

I stumbled upon a discussion and it interested me. How could a player reach such a high level at such a short amount of time?

Also note that this kid does not currently have a sponsor.

"I have read several threads on the youngest reaching a given rating.

I am wondering if anyone has looked into the fastest to a given rating.

At the 2011 Nationals 14 year old Bryant Lin reached a rating of 2287.

A decent accomplishment, but not so remarkable until taken with the fact that he started playing less than 2 years ago.

Bryant walked into the Alameda Table Tennis club in January of 2010 and he played his first round robin on 1/17/10 emerging with a rating of 357. In February he enrolled in our beginner kid’s class, and soon began taking private lessons with Avishy.

He played his first tournament on 5/2/2010 and came out rated 590. In March of 2011 he hit 1900.

It seams that the average young protégé reaches a rating of 1000 – 1500 after about 2 years of tournament play. Bryant reached 1900 in 10 months.

Of course starting at a little older age makes it easier to progress faster initialy.

I know that there are tennis pros etc that have quickly progressed in table tennis, can you think of a player without a background in another racket sport that reached 2200 faster?"

If you check his tournament record, he participate about 8 tournaments half a year, that alots compare to most other amateur player. And from the win loss record, you can also see that he is able to get to quaterfinal/semifinal/final in most of the tournament. So this help to boost his rating fast.

Yes his coach must be very good.

Avishy is it? It seems someone named Avishy Schmidt won the Over 50s at US Nationals, too. Is that the same person?
