whar does "glassy" mean?
How long is a string of rope?
Oh alright, I won't be sealing it by myself anyways. Going to go to a shop and tell them to seal it
They will probably use water-based spray sealer, it won't be as effective as something like an actual waterproof seal with polyurethane based products, and will need to be reapplied after a couple rubber removals, so I'd look into something more permanent especially if you're going for a DHS blade.

Uh i still don't get it for the glassy meaning
Is there any recommendation for the sealer?

It means that it means whatever someone wants it to mean. Probably means it feels like a stiffer blade.

Wipe-on polyurethane should be fine. Thin coat.

Be careful with the sealant. I sealed my Fang Bo carbon (B2), and the rubber did not stick well to the blade. I had no issue with any blade, but this one I sealed. I used the xiom with the sponge on top.
What did you use to seal, and did you lightly sand it after sealing?

If you use something like wax, it will make it pretty slippery. Polyurethane as well although sanding should fix that.

I can't remember what I used the first time I sealed a blade, but it must have been some kind of satin lacquer. Rubbers stuck to the blade for over a decade. :p

I have changed 3 or 4 pairs of rubbers on Fang Bo b2. There was some wood residue stuck on the rubber but nothing substantial. I think it's important to take rubber slowly and diagonally. That would make it safer. I also had dhs 301, which has koto on top, that got even the deeper layers stuck on the rubber on one side, so for that one definitely sealing is a must.
When it come to original question, I think Fang Bo is more suited for flat hitting and driving while Long 5 for more spin oriented game.

ive jst asked the shop n they said they use wipe on as the seal
Should be fine then. I prefer to do stuff myself because I know what has been done. I might buy the smallest jar you can find and apply some more yourself after a couple rubber changes if you wanna be safe. DHS blades splinter easily, Stiga as well.

I don't remember. I did tried to sand it, it improved it a bit.

I don't know. To me, they are both spin oriented. Just that Fang Bo B2 is a blade of transition from Allwood to Long 5. I think, you should go 5ply wood all, then 7 ply wood OFF (like PG7), then go to FB B2, then finally play Long 5. You get somewhat similar feeling with the PG7, FB B2 to Long 5, with speed increase each time as your level grow. I think H301 is better for flat hitting.

The B2, and especially B2X, are stiffer than the Long V. Am I missing something here?

B2X yes, just like Long5X is stiffer. But the only difference (outside ply quality) between the B2 and Long 5 are dimensions of the head and grip. The B2 is less extreme than the long 5. My point is, Don't buy a Fang Bo B2 for a flat hit game. It is still a blade for spin oriented game, but at reasonable price, and easier handling than long 5 if you come from different brand. But Yes the long 5 is better for looping, but is more expensive and more extreme. You pay the price for that.
Both B2X and HL5X are less flex and stiffer to be less spinny and more powerish.
In a way you can list them as follow :
- Loop machine/spinny : B2 -> HL5
- Power machine/speed game : B2x-> HL5x

Don't view de X variant as an evolution, but Long 5 as. X serie are in a different category. They are not advertise like that, but in feeling they are in a different category. B2 and long 5 are more similar than B2 and B2x. To me, it does feel like that.

I have 3 B2X and one Long 5 I'm starting to play test now seriously (thanks for the trade @Matteones !!) and I can tell you that they are certainly different blades:
  1. Handle is different, B2X is bulkier, Long 5 more refined in neck/shoulders, Long 5 is smaller overall
  2. Feeling is different, B2X is muted, crispy and outer feel, while Long 5 (and SYS/WCQ) give much more vibration and wood/inner feel
  3. Throw/dwell also different, B2X is very low throwing and low dwell, very sharp, the Long 5 is more forgiving, more elastic and softer, higher dwell, like SYS/WCQ blades
I will update this with some in depth reviews while I'm done testing. So far I love both but they are made for different play styles and rubber combos imo :)

Have you played with regular Bo2 ? To me it felt smiliar to the Long 5, but long 5 does it better. Flex, medium+ throw, late kick (earlier on long 5, and more kick overall), controllable, and head heavy. Relatively thin handle compared to BTY Viscaria.

I played with the B2 for a bit yes, but I found the handle not really comfortable, so moved to B2X :) I'm testing the Long 5 at the moment, I think it is indeed softer/flexier, has more gears and more vibration. But I will do a review soonish after I have tested it properly for at least a month :)

I can't wait. HL5 feels like the best piece of equipement i got since the Fang bo 2 a decade ago. But more importantly, the comparison with WCQ and SYS interest me.
