When I was a professional ramp skater, we used to show up to a ramp in some city and session there. There would always be kids who were decent and wanted to get better and who would ask us questions like, "How do you get sponsored? What do I need to do to get better?"

Well, most of these kids were kids and were skating ramps because they were having fun. But every so often one of these kids would be approaching skating more like homework and those kids weren't really having fun.

Some of the stuff in this thread reminds me of that.

It's okay to have goals. It's okay to want to progress. To be OCD, to be focused with a bit of tunnel vision. But it is worth kicking back and having fun and throwing all those goals away once in a while and just having fun playing.

It is amazing how much you can learn and how creative you can get when your rational conceptions of goals and progress get thrown out the window and you aren't hung up about winning, getting better, hitting the table.

Try to have fun with this stuff.
