can I do a multiple choice? :p
Attacker: because there are many good rallies if both players are nearly same level and that's fun for players and the audience :D
Chopper: interesting because there aren't many and the rallies are also good and I like the strategy in that sort of games ^^
Allrounder: because you don't know when the opponent plays what. will he chop the next ball or probably smash it? ^^

I really don't know x)

Chopper anytime!

Most of the choppers around can't attack with their "chop-side", mostly their BH. This means I have a safe spot to keep the rally going whenever I'm in trouble.
My game plan would be the following against a chopper:

1. Serve short with either a lot of backspin or with a disguised float-serve.
2. If the Chopper pushes with his long-pips, the ball has little or no backspin at all, so I can easily attack with fast FH loop.
3. If the ball returns, I put in a slow, but really spinny 3rd ball, often to the none-pips side.
4. At this point there are three options:
- either the chopper chops, in which case there's a motherload of backspin on the ball, so I carefully push this ball to his BH pips-side, and then the story starts all over again.
- or the chopper blocks to my BH, in which case I counterhit the ball to his "switchpoint" (the spot right in the middle between his FH & BH)
- or the chopper blocks to my FH, in which case I will produce a monster-loop deeply placed on the table, with a lot of speed.
Of course, I have some "fail"-issues now and then, but I said it was a game-'plan', not a certainty of future events :p

Main thing beginning/intermediate players don't get, is that when a chopper pushes a pushed ball back, there's almost NO backspin on it, and therefore easily looped way too long off the table.
They also don't understand the direct interaction between the amount of backspin generated by a chopper and the amount of topspin generated by the attacker.

Biggest mistake attackers make against loopers (and I see this EVERY competition-match), is the fact that they let the chopped ball get past its highest point-of-curve.
--> You MUST hit the ball at highest point, or even slightly before it, but NEVER later than that.

I hope this was helpful advice, but maybe you're all pros and I'm the only upper-intermediate player on this forum, in which case I will shut up and go crying in my lonely and forgotten cave...

I have a Kreanga-style backhand for a defender so I dont fully defend with my BH but kill all half-assed strokes to my BH.. Twiddle and VOILA :D

To be honest, I enjoy playing against all the type of players above, but what really like is playing against unorthodox players. It gets really tricky sometimes, and I have to depend on my wits and experience to pull me through. One of the sort of players play in my club, and they call him the octopus, coz he will try to get or attack a shot that most people thought is good and buried. He will dive, slide, basically what ever it takes. His strokes are not even close to the ones we were taught. It's really fun... Against intermediate players, he really is a handful.

In fact, there are times where we receive visitors to our club, they will be shaking their heads playing against this fella. All of us will be at the corner snickering away..:D. As far as he thinks, he is not doing anything wrong. His forehand swerve violently and backhands beyond the comprehension of physics. Nevertheless, he gets the job done. It's just funny looking at their faces...
