Well, I don’t have booster and I don’t intend to boost rubbers.

Also I just bought rubbers, Sanwei Target 3 National on both sides, just that forehand is 40 degree 2.15mm blue sponge and backhand 37 degree Japanese style spring sponge
can you provide a quick review on the sanwei 37deg Japanese sponge.
I see this as well, but not much info on it.

I will. There isn’t many proper reviews of it, I’ll see.

Alright, so I glued the rubbers.

Glueing Target 3 National was hard, much harder than H3 Neo, Volant 1&2, Yinhe Big Dipper and even Pimps, Yinhe 955 0.7mm sponge. The sponge of Sanwei keeps disintegrating and flaking off, leaving the edge unsightly and full of chunk out parts. I’m using the same force and technique of cutting with a razor blade as with the others, but it doesn’t work. The side is unsightly.

The rubbers on both sides are quite tacky, more than H3 NEO Commercial. It easily hangs the ball upside down, dropping after movements and about 10 seconds. Yet to test in game but will use tomorrow.

Ok, here is a week plus review.

The Sanwei Target 3 National Blue Sponge is a rather fast rubber. Just slightly slower and skinnier than Volant 1. I found that it was a little softer than Volant 1 at 40 degrees, so I suspect medium hard is 39 degrees. It does have quality and spin, and overall is quite a good rubber. Durability is high, no chips, but the sponge initially flaked when cut. The edges are still jagged, but doesn’t affect play. Overall, the most suitable forehand rubber for me up to this point, (tho I do like H3 Blue sponge)

The spin generated by this rubber is quite good, and I got back my arc for safety to go over the net. It occasionally overshoots the table, but less so, and I feel more confident with forehand drives and loops. That being said, throw angle is low, and a good brush with the bat angle rather open is important, and it isn’t the most forgiving when your stroke isn’t complete. Volant is faster and more forgiving.

Target 3 National on the backhand with softer spring sponge is not bad, but the throw is really high. I really need to keep my backhand angle low, or every shot will go out. It is rather grippy, and isn’t the fastest. This rubber I would consider a little unsuitable for me at the current, as it is rather spin sensitive and slow, and requires rather full technique to use. It doesn’t crack at all like Tin Arc, more of a dull thud. And backhand smash isn’t fast, so are flat hits, compared to other. I would think I would prefer Volant on backhand and target blue sponge on forehand.

Durability is high, still tacky, but it’s only been a week.

As for progress, it’s been good to me. My game is more balanced on forehand and backhand, and I can topspin with backhand more consistently than rpb. Forehand still lacks a bit more speed, but spin is enough. It will never have the same high spinny arc as jpen, but it’s direct and I need to learn better placement.

I found forehand to backhand change a bit awkward, and occasionally get jammed. This is especially true when playing long pimps, and I found I played safer but lost more points.

Which comes to the bad part-short game.

I never felt I was bad at it before, but now I think I suck. I can’t control the short game, and when playing long pimps, lose control to my opponent and will get dragged around. I miss way too often, often not getting past the net. Then to compensate and changing the racket angle I will pop the ball high and easy point for opponent.

And playing choppers became horrendous. Struggling with backspin, when I use to be able to confidently loop it. Now when I try, it either goes into the net, or a crack and flies way out high.

Serves are alright, and my go to is a pendulum serve like Ma long, with the hand movement, and a reverse pendulum following Zhang Jike and fang bo’s tutorial on QuanShiBao. The reverse pendulum sidespin topspin is something I occasionally throw around messing up the opponent. I’ve also started doing hook serves, and the occasional half short pure backspin serve.

One thing to note, put only two layers of glue on the blade and two on the rubber, or else it may be slower, especially to European rubbers. I tried Tenergy 05H before, and it sure was fast-too much so I didn’t like it, hence why I won’t want euro rubbers on forehand.

This review is very informative! I hope you keep training and improving. I have one more rubber you can test out, TG2! Very nice rubber.

For the short game, you can put more force on the ball for it to 'ignore' the spin of the ball. And for offense, you have to be very confident or else you will undoubtedly miss. Other than that it's just training

Hello, an update on my journey to shakehand, and more long term on Sanwei target 3 National.

Yesterday was my last day of school. I’ve completed examinations and finally can start playing tt more often.

I met my training buddy and played tt with him. He plays OX long pimps and H3 forehand. Blocker style. I trained to shorten my forehand stroke, and discovered a breakthrough. A primary 4 girl (10 y.o.) taught me how to drive during her break time, told me to bend down more, open bat and more forward stroke. Most of all, no brushing. This was rather new to me, and at first I missed a lot of balls by overshooting the table. I felt that without brushing, I don’t feel the security to put the ball on the table, especially with more forward movement. But with adjustment I found my way, and it clicked. I had to stand lower, and my coach never taught me how to hold my bat properly. That girl taught me more in 5 minutes than my coach for two months, 16 hours total. I gained more security, and realised that putting my fingers slightly higher on the back of the bat with my index finger gave more feeling of the ball, and hence more security. But finger must be down during loops. And after feeing the ball, I realised the advice as previously mentioned that bat angle doesn’t matter as much was legit. If you have the feel, it really isn’t as significant.

Another aspect is that I must complete the full stroke. Backswing isn’t as important as the follow through giving security.

After that, I played with my friend, and we practiced forehand drive and loop, and afterwards me looping against long pimps. Again the girl just told me one line, “bend lower, open bat angle and swing through and tense on contact.” And it worked. I regained forehand confidence I lost changing from penhold to shakehand. I owe much respect to this little girl. At this point she’s a better coach than my coach whom I need to pay!

Afterwards, a ratty old coach came and told us to leave. Valid as we never booked, but you booked 5 out of 6 tables, and two are unused. Plus, we know to leave when people come. But maybe better tone and not, “You, don’t play here. Leave the room.”

We played awhile more at the rather crammed outdoor table, and then an hour later an old uncle came, stared at us and hinted to the door. We didn’t want to argue so we just shut up and left. It’s a public table, you can’t do this? But entitled elderly feel they have their way, and since we’re wearing school uniform we know a complaint may be enough for me to lose my Student Councillor role.

As for Target 3 National, I have to say, is really nice. Somehow, the rubber is starting to feel softer and more forgiving, but is losing some spin. Also, the top sheet of the red side, softer sponge, started having a weird pattern and looks like it’s 2 years old. No chips though.

Hello, I just want to give my input here.

Just now, I played with a friend, and he let me try out his bat-a Fang Bo B2 with H3 Blue Sponge FH and I think D05 BH. I really really liked this bat, and I was surprised overall on how nice it was to forehand. This was the first time I used D05, and it is an interesting rubber. I haven’t really tried Butterfly’s Dignics line, so this was new to me. It was rather fast, and very easy to use! Honestly I didn’t need to put much effort into my strokes at all. Oh FH or BH. Using more force results in the ball going out, but I never encountered a situation where the ball goes into the net. I think the arc is quite high. Like it just shoots out. Honestly D05 is really nice on both FH or BH.

However, I still feel more confidence with H3. Maybe cause I’m used to Chinese rubbers, but I feel that it doesn’t go as fast and lets me use more force. Also, serves are spinnier with Chinese rubbers, undeniably.

As for the Fang Bo B2, it’s a really nice blade. Honestly, I prefer it over my own Long 5. I felt that it was harder and more direct, which I’m starting to prefer. It also feels ever so slightly faster. However, I don’t really like the thin handle, like my own long 5. Why are DHS blades having such thin handles?!

Also, is it normal for shake hangers to develop calluses on the palm? Ever since my switch, the palm of my hand has been hard with calluses.

Update:

I have returned from my trip to Chongqing. As it’s a school trip, I never really got to buy stuff, so I didn’t get H3 Blue sponge .😞

I’ve been watching the China national games. May I know how does the games work? FZD vs LSD was the final, but how did WCQ play XX? How does the draw work?

Also, does anyone think Zhou Kai looks a bit like young Zhang Jike?

By the way, my dad’s friend is selling his DHS Fang Bo B2 for 20SGD. I’ve always liked it, so I’m considering buying it. If not I can sell it to my friends too. But the serial no is on the blade surface, a bit odd. Is this normal?

Serial number can be found below. It should be authentic right?

Used only once, glued and removed once.

Hello, as one would know, I got the Fang Bo B2 with Double Fish Volant on both sides, 41 FH 37 bh. Rubbers from another blade but basically unused.

This was my first time boosting.

Applied a very thin layer of baby oil on the forehand, left it to dry for 12 hours. Then I applied another layer and let it dry through the night. Then added 2 layers of glue on the blade and sponge and pasted it on. There was a dome, but less than I expected. Maybe baby oil just isn’t the best booster.

First thing I noticed was that the edges can’t sit on the blade very well. It just kinda peels up. Then, not just that, the topsheet seems to separate a bit from the sponge. It has a kind of greyish halo on the sponge edge.

I only boosted 41 degree forehand, didn’t touch bh.

Haven’t tried it yet, but tmr is a session and I will give my inputs then.

Also, I glue with regular Haifu, so yeah I don’t think it’s water based.

You'd know if a glue is waterbased or not depending on its appearance. Waterbased glues are solid white in appearance and often smells of ammonia, VOC based glues are clear or opaque and smell of chemical solvent. VOC glues like Haifu Whale or Haifu Dolphin are not as strong as waterbased glues so gluing a boosted rubber with VOC glues often produces a less than satisfactory result in my experience

I guess it’s VOC glue, looks like spittle.

Yup, thats Haifu Dolphin. Might explain the extra peeling off of the blade edge but this can also happen especially on blades with a very smooth top ply or sealed blades if you are not careful when cutting
