Interestingly ZJK talks about his equipment in this video and mentions that his Butterfly rubbers are custom made, that they're 3-4 degrees harder than commercial ones. This should be definitive proof that what the pros use is not the same as what we can get.
I wonder if that makes his rubbers 'technically' illegal in the eyes of the ITTF, because they would not be the same rubbers as they approved?
Whatever you do, don't tell Igor. :ROFLMAO:

Butterfly doesn't sponsor the "bottom tier pros" but among the ones they do, the lower level ones don't get custom blades and rubbers. The ones who do are the ones that are around top 25 or maybe 50 in the world either currently or historically. I'm not sure what Talented Ams means.
Yea they sponsor a lot of Japanese pros not in the top 25. They sponsor para athletes. Top ams are kids slated for greatness, but t hey're not paid yet.

They only approve topsheets, you're free to use whatever sponge. See how the H3 openly has 2 different types of sponge.

Japanese players probably get some preferential treatment but the lower ranked ones not from Japan generally do not get customization, at least the ones I speak with

Assuming they've only modified the sponge, not the top-sheet as well, then you're right. Manufacturers are required to send the ITTF rubbers including sponge, but I'm not sure what the ITTF looks at in order to give approval.

Of course if there's any truth to the rumours that Igor keeps spreading about the ITTF requiring approval for different sponge hardness as well (which could make the ITTF a ton of $$$), then this would be an issue again.

When the Manual M4 was known as Technical Leaflet T4, it was clearly stated the ITTF approval was given to both the topsheet + sponge. It used to be just the topsheet until 2009 or 2010 and was modified when forum folks contended (more like confronted) Adham Sharara with that point of view on the forum.

H3 with #20 and #22 sponge means DHS has sent in both for approval.

not sure what are you guys smoking but Butterfly do cater to my needs, that is, customized to my needs too:

I can choose the Hard version but I sucks with it.
I can choose the Regular version which makes me less suxs
or I can choose the soft or fx version which is just right for me.

If this is not customized, what is? 😎

: so say Butterfly fanboi #1.

I believe the reason table tennis equipment is so expensive is because unless you are a equipment junkie you don't need to replace equipment very often and because it's not the most played sport in the world that's why prices are so high?? I'm not saying that right, just my opinion.

my coach was sponsored by tibhar and told me they had different segments of what kind of deal you get, depending on how high you play and how young and upcoming you are. the lowest would by to just get some rubbers per year maybe like 20 or so (my coached used one fresh sheet of MX-P every month for both sides). then you would have the full thing of getting everything you need like shoes, blade, bags, how many rubbers you want. and then you would have custom needs like choosing the individual hardness of the sponge, or even the topsheet including ones that are not even for sale. sometimes you even can choose a blade and get them to make it softer, or slower, or more flexible, or stiffer for you (kind of like the purpose of the DHS w968 from what i read in this forum) on this i would say no, pros are not playing with the same equipment as you can buy in the store, or at least not all pros do...

but it also doesn't matter. sometimes these wishes of pros are designed for their kinda play and what would it bring us mortals to release a tibhar K3 extra pro with hardness of 60° while even the best players in my club (2000 german TTR) find the normal K3 already borderline hard. same with MX-P hard, that was released because it was played by pros but no one i know of plays these rubber, not even my coach, because it is just insanly hard to play if you don't have pro skills. also the lifetime of these rubbers is not a manufacturer purpose because pros will change them every 2 weeks anyway. so sometimes i don't get these discussion. it is not like we would play magically better, no we would actually play way worse and would pay more and this is what zhang jike also said in the video.

I didnt read all but Butterfly makes blades with super zlc and my theory is that they made the type of blade for young asians (other than China) and europeans to compete with China players and everybody copy cat China type of equipment so yeah overpriced but 14 years old Faraji would never beat Wang Chuqin without super zlc blade.

Another example of ZJK being a straight up G. In this video he shows the audience the blade he's using, which is a ZJK super ZLC. He says however that it's actually a Viscaria, just with the ZJK SZLC handle. He also recommends people NOT to get the SZLC because it's too stiff, that not even he has the power to use it.

Also another example of Butterfly being gangsters. Let's market this heap of crap that Zhang Jike can't even use.
$350 should bring the suckers a running!

Gotta give some credit to ZJK, especially if he's still getting royalties from his namesake blades. He said a lot of good things about Butterfly and recommended people to buy their stuff in my previous video, so he clearly doesn't have anything against Butterfly. Even in this video he's using a Vis with D09c's on both sides. He's just a straight shooter who doesn't give a F.
