TIME WASTE.

Watching doubles playing table tennis is some time waste, because there is nothing even close comparable to the 2021 Final. The game of all times, indeed. The best spectacle to re-watch over and over again. 🥰🥰🥰

Here's a look at the men's draw from the first Doubles World Cup back in 1990. It shows China losing to the Korean pair in the group, and being knocked out by Germany in the quarterfinal.

I made a post on Instagram about the event as well: CenturyTableTennis

(The Table Tennis World Cup in France as early as 2027?)
https://www.lequipe.fr/Tennis-de-ta...de-tennis-de-table-en-france-des-2027/1698468

(Will the World Cup singles tournament, which reappeared on the circuit in 2024 after a three-year hiatus, be held in France? Negotiations, which began last fall, could conclude in the coming days, during the US Grand Smash tournament that starts this Friday in Los Angeles.

According to our sources, if France is awarded the event, at least one edition will take place in Paris, followed, perhaps, by a first edition in 2027 in another French city (Montpellier is reportedly the frontrunner). During a federal council meeting on May 30, the French Table Tennis Federation (FFTT) approved adjustments to the federal calendar to allow for a major competition to be held.

The idea stemmed from a defeat. Having lost to Astana and Kazakhstan in the vote to host the 2027 World Championships in May 2025, France, which had submitted a joint bid with Montpellier, has expressed interest in hosting another international competition, particularly due to the prestige of the French national teams and the centenary of the French Table Tennis Federation (FFTT) in 2027.

Meanwhile, on March 19, the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) announced the creation of a Doubles World Cup, which will complement the existing Singles World Cup held in April and the Mixed Team World Cup in December. In 2023, the ITTF entrusted the marketing of the World Cups to the Chinese company WTMG (World Table Tennis Management Group), which subsequently signed a contract with the city of Chengdu (China) to organize the Mixed Team World Cup until 2027. Then, in 2024, it signed with Macau for the individual version, now awarded until 2030.

The French Federation is holding numerous meetings.

If negotiations with France are successful, Macau could retain the Doubles World Cup, necessary to create a qualifying pathway for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games (men's and women's doubles were added to the program in exchange for condensing the team events into a single mixed tournament).

The French Federation is therefore negotiating with WTMG, holding numerous meetings: in Chengdu in December, at the Grand Smash in Singapore in February, at the World Cup in Macau in April... And even in Laval, at the French Championships two weeks ago, where Nicole Chen, Vice President of WTMG, and Bart Vermoesen, Director of Competitions at the ITTF, witnessed the triumph of Prithika Pavade and Félix Lebrun. France hosted the World Cup from 1995 to 1997 in Nîmes, in 2006 and 2011 at the Halle Carpentier in Paris, and in 2018 at Disneyland Paris.)

With Europe in fray, ITTF Doubles World Cup unlikely to be held in China, says president Sorling
https://sportstar.thehindu.com/tabl...sorling-utt-2026-goa/article71208164.ece/amp/
“We haven’t made the formal announcement yet, but we will take the World Cup, the Men’s and the Women’s (doubles) World Cup out of China-Macau, and we will go to Europe for the formal announcement to come later on,” Sorling told PTI in an exclusive interview on the sidelines of the seventh season of Ultimate Table Tennis here.

Sorling said with doubles being a medal event at 2028 LA Games, it was important to have a World Cup in that category.

“It’s a new concept that we are now taking the World Cups into the world of doubles. It has actually started, we were very inspired here by UTT League when it comes to playing together in teams, playing mixed teams, and we created a World Cup, namely the Mixed Team World Cup,” she said.

“That became a very big success, and we tried to also sell this to the Olympic movement, because we felt that this will be very interesting also to play in the Olympic Games.

“When an event becomes an Olympic event, such as the doubles now are coming back, then of course the players want to play more doubles and doubles become more important. That’s the reason why we added one World Cup. There was a demand for it, driven by the fact that we are now having doubles back in the Olympic programme in 2028,” Sorling added.
