Since June I am playing with mx-k on my jpen Darker Speed 90 10mm.
It is great for returning services specially short, easy to cut, easy to topspin (even heavy cut balls), easy to side topspin, serve with control and enough spin to win some direct points. When receiving any unknown spin mid-long/long serve, you just go with the ball touching it thinly for a long time and it lands on opponent table easily.
The downsides are: 1) Difficult to smash, 2) Difficult to do hard topspin with spin.
I know that I often hit the ball with my racket face too open, or I strike it with too much force. Because the sponge is soft (and the rubber is similar to an MX-P, but with shorter pillars), it compresses completely until it bottoms out against the wood; the ball then follows the trajectory dictated by the wood, but with absolutely no spin. I win A LOT of points because my opponents end up blocking the ball into the net. This helps me score, but by the third set, my opponents simply open their racket faces wider, and the element of surprise vanishes. Furthermore, since my topspin has less arc—due to the lack of spin—I have to be careful not to hit the ball off the table. Some of my shots have spin, while others don’t; this really confuses my opponents, my training partners, and even me!
I try to do the topspin without leaving the ball falling down, moving all arm in an horizontal trajectory (from behind to front) and using the wrist for the spin. This is what I learned from Lee Jae Chul (Mapo, Korea) but he touches the ball thinly with no sound and, my ball sounds totally like a hard/strong hit.
Surprisingly, bending my wrist and advanced my elbow I can backhand topspin TPB because I touch the ball more thin with an horizontal trajectory without letting it down. And this ball it has always nice spin.
I am wondering if continue with the same rubber and try to topspin more thinly, with less force, or to switch to mx-k h or to mx-d
Receiving serves easily is mandatory for me, because I am not very good in guessing spin.
Anyone with similar experience like mine? Thanks in advance!
