Looking for a Black Rubber Similar to Yinhe Moon 12 Blue Medium Soft

Hi everyone,

I play penhold with a Yinhe Pro 01 blade and I really like Moon 12 Blue Medium Soft on my backhand. I can do RPB loops pretty easily with it, and the ball seems to stay on the table very consistently.

I actually tried it on my forehand too, and I liked it even more. It's very easy to receive serves with, and when I do a short chop to return serve, the ball stays low and just clears the net. It also seems fairly insensitive to incoming spin. TPB blocks are easy to control, and I can still get a decent forehand loop even when my stroke isn't perfect.

I would really like to use the same rubber on both sides, but unfortunately Moon 12 Medium Soft only comes in blue, so I can't use it on both sides.

Is there a black version of Moon 12 Medium Soft available? Or is there another Chinese rubber that plays very similarly?

I put Mercury 2 Soft in black on as an experiment, but it's not really what I'm looking for. On the forehand, when I do the same short chop return, the ball tends to pop up and I get punished. On the backhand, when I try an RPB loop, the ball tends to fly off the table. This is not an one off occurrence, I have repeated the experiments a few times with same results.

I'm hoping to find something with that same easy, controlled feel as Moon 12, preferably another Chinese rubber in a similar price range. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Moon Speed 53 Euro will probably have a similar topsheet feel (Moon but less tacky) but the sponge is a bit stiff even in the medium soft version. I don't know how Moon 12 measures, but this is how mine measured:

Yinhe Moon Speed 53 EURO M- RED
Topsheet 30.0 - 31.0 A / 51.5 - 52.5 O
Sponge 30.5 - 31.0 A / 48.5 - 49.0 O

Moon Speed Soft and Medium are closer to 42-44 range for the sponge.

Like Archo said, yinhe moon speed 53 is literally what you are searching for, also I can recommend yasaka thunder dragon for the backhand as well.

I was looking on Aliexpress, Moon Speed 53 is only available in red, it seems (Maybe other places carry it). And it's more than double the price of Moon 12 M-! I would like something in black and cheap! Sorry to be so picky!

Hm, I coulda sworn it came in black too. Maybe that was Asia.

The feel between 53 Euro and Speed Medium isn't so different, and those also come in black.

I’m assuming that when you used mercury II soft, you don’t mind something tacky. Yinhe Saturn S1 may be another choice, since it has the same sponge as the moon 12. Or Palio AK47 blue/yellow if you want non-tacky.

Take it as a grain of salt, since I haven’t used either of them.

I was thinking of AK47 Blue. But will check out more info about Saturn S1. Thanks.

I don't think AK47 plays like Moon 12 at all. The closest in my experience is Hurricane 8-80 37°, though it has a tacky topsheet and a higher price tag. Maybe Palio CJ8000 in ~36°? Moon 12 Blue is quite unique.

H8-80 37° is definitely on my want to try list. I will look into CJ8000 36° also. Thanks.

No problem. I ended buying a sheet of S1 for 15 bucks Cdn, can't really go wrong.
