Need Help Choosing a New Backhand Rubber

Hey everyone,

I’m back into table tennis after a 5-year break and could really use some input on finding the right backhand rubber. I’ve been playing for over 20 years at a fairly high level and recently picked up an FZD ALC paired with Dignics 05 on both sides.

The thing is… I’m not comfortable with the D05 on my backhand. I’ve given it time, but something just feels off. I’ve also tried K3, Gewo SuperSelect, Bluefire, 09c, and a few others, but still haven’t found that sweet spot.

My backhand has always been my main weapon. I love blocking and countering close to the table, and I especially enjoy smashing high topspin balls (kind of like what Adriana Díaz does). Fast, direct, and aggressive.

Some of my fondest memories are from playing with Bryce Speed FX. I’m aware it’s probably not the same with the plastic ball era, but it felt crisp, responsive, and perfect for my style back then. I’ve looked into Bryce Highspeed and am also wondering if Tenergy 05 might be a better fit these days.

Would love to hear from anyone who has experience with Bryce rubbers in the current game or who’s transitioned from Dignics to something better suited for a close-to-the-table, fast backhand game. Any recommendations?

For what its worth, Adriana Diaz uses Dignic 64 on BH for for her signature punches.

Sounds like a case for Tenergy. Unless you found Dignics too springy, in that case I'm a bit out of ideas

More than springy, found it a bit unstable for a lack of a better word. Was thinking of Tenergy as I did played with for a couple of years.

Less spinn, faster. When i tried Harimoto ALC with Dignics 05 and Dignics 64 on each side, i find the control of the 64 to be higher. Got the feeling i could put the ball where i wanted it to go.

OK then, I will suggest you a cheaper solution XIOM Vega X. At least you can try with an affordable price...

From what I hear, you need a BH combo that offers low arc, good control and not so sensitive to incoming spin.

I own FZD ALC, Viscaria, ZJK ALC and letter W968. FZD ALC has an incredibly high arc (due to high flex). My bh block flies high and long.

Swtiching back to Viscaria with T64 makes my BH invincible. I can block almost any shot.


If you're not changing your blade - find a rubber with incredibly low arc to compensate for the high flex - T64, Aurus etc

If you're changing your blade - Viscaria or FZD SALC have lower arc and better control on BH.
