Yes, the original ones (in OX) were found to be slightly over the limit of 2.0mm, so they redesigned them to be slightly shorter. I'm sure sure of the year, but I would guess about 12 years ago perhaps?
Wasn't this at the same time the frictionless pips got banned? Because that was around the 2000s iirc

No, flp were banned in like 2007? 08? Dtecs was nerfed in the early 10s, pre poly ball I'm pretty sure

Why did ITTF disfavour the older version of long pimples? lt was found by the year 1999 that the long/slim pimples did become overly "bending" and deceptive, the very factor to bring in randomness to the game too much.
