SANWEI Su style Latest update, Eagle Beak

Hi everyone, Andrea here from SANWEI 👋

We recently updated our Su Style series, and one of the more interesting new designs is the Su Style – Eagle Beak.

I wanted to share a bit more context behind it, since this one is quite different from previous SU versions.

🦅 What’s different about “Eagle Beak”?

Compared to earlier Su Style blades, this version focuses more on grip geometry and finger positioning.
The hook structure is more angular (beak-like)
The index finger and thumb sit closer together
There’s a more defined support area for the forefinger

This changes how the blade “locks” into your hand.

🏓 Design philosophy (Su Style core)

If you’ve used SU before, you’ll recognize the fundamentals:

A forefinger platform for more stable contact
A pincer-style grip aligning the hitting point with your forearm
A triangle force structure (thumb–index–middle finger) for better power transfer

Overall goal is still the same:
👉 more natural swing
👉 less finger stress
👉 easier backhand execution

🔄 What changed in play feeling?

From early feedback and discussion in the community:

“Seems better for TPB… last version was more RPB oriented”

The sharper hook angle may make TPB (traditional penhold backhand) more intuitive
The reduced gap helps the blade rest more naturally on the index finger
The grip feels more “locked in”, but slightly less flexible than traditional penhold

Some players also mentioned that it feels closer to J-pen style finger positioning, especially during blocking and quick backhand actions.

⚙️ Structure options

Like other Su Style blades, this isn’t a single setup — it comes in multiple constructions:

All-wood (control / training)
7-ply wood
Carbon / Arylate-carbon options for speed and stability

So you can pair the handle concept with very different performance profiles.

🤔 My take

Eagle Beak feels less like a “refinement” and more like a direction shift:

Previous SU → more RPB-friendly / balanced
Eagle Beak → more TPB + blocking + close-table control oriented

It’s a more specialized ergonomic solution, not just a comfort upgrade.

Curious what you guys think:

Would you prefer this sharper “hook” over the older rounded SU design?
Do you think this helps TPB more than RPB in real play?
Or is it getting too far from traditional penhold feeling?

Happy to discuss 👍

Yes, please!
Mine has arrived, and I played a few sessions with it.

I love the handle. Marked improvement from the previous version.

Mine is super heavy though at 101g. I got the YS6. I love ZLC feeling, that's why I got the YS6.

I need more testing, and will get back to you later.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

@Azku : please, tell us all the details. Did you put two rubbers there? it will be very heavy

Is it true that jpen TPB is easy and comfortable?

@Andrea Jiang : do you know if Sanwei is going to be at Gangeung2026? If they are there, please bring some Eagle Beak. I think it is a good opportunity as many veteran asian from korea, japan, taiwan, singapur are playing jpen TPB.

I need to play with it a bit more to give a full review, but I can talk about the handle.

Yes, TPB is easy and comfortable to do. If you tried the previous SU version, TPB was awkward, at least for me.

For Eagle Beak, if feels like it's designed with TPB in mind. The triangular-shaped hook really follows the contour of the index finger very well for TPB.

At the same time, FH and RPB are still very easy to do, similar to the previous SU.

In term of the weight, I'm lucky because I use SP/LP combo. My setup weighs 167g, which is the heaviest setup I've ever had. But, interestingly enough, it doesn't feel that heavy. I guess it's because of a few things. 1) The hook is really solid and stable. It allows for deeper grip without sacrificing the flexibility and FH-TPB transition. 2) The weight distribution is very balanced, maybe even slightly handle-heavy.

Thanks for sharing. Oh wow that's so heavy!
My blade is 55g, and I prefer light setups

Hello Andrea

What is the weight of each of the models: YS1, YS2, YS3, YS6?

What is the closest in play to a 1 hinoki of 9 mm, and 10 mm?

Thanks
YS1 is 92g+_ 2g
YS2 is 90g+_ 5g
YS3 is 91g+_ 2g
YS6 is 90g +_ 1g

What is the closest in play to a 1 hinoki of 9 mm, and 10 mm?

Because they are all composite structures, it is difficult to find a model that is closest to a single hinoki. You can tell me the style you want, and I will choose a model for you.

Yes, I did. I put on two rubbers.

Thank you for your kind advice. I have told my marketing colleagues.

How come my YS6 is a whooping 101g?

It's a pity, but yes, there are indeed individual cases where the blades are overweight.
May I know where you buy it?
You can leave a message in your order to choose your demand weight blade for free, if you buy on our official store.
