So in chess, there's several well known openings, such as Ruy Lopez, Queen Gambit, etc. They all have specific aims (eg dominate centre squares) and have proven to be better than just random openings.
What do you think about how that is applicable to TT? Give names to common effective combinations to educate students about each one, the purpose of each one and also to facilitate coaching during games (coach: your opponent is weakest when you open with a Xu Xin Gambit or a Lebrun Variation so focus on those in your serves).
If course your opponent is free to respond any which way however you open, but that's also true in chess.
