During a tense match between Benyamin Faraji and Nandan Naresh at the 2025 ITTF World Youth Championships in Romania, an unusual incident sparked debate.

Following a short rally, Faraji approached the umpire, claiming that Naresh was staring at him between points. The umpire responded by showing Naresh a yellow card, a decision that immediately left fans puzzled.

Is there actually a rule against staring? Was this a misunderstanding, or simply an umpiring error?

Something about unsporting behavior and intimidation?
I'm not aware of any specific rules but there are many that govern player behavior and sportsmanlike conduct.
Perhaps the umpire has already noticed it (impossible not to if it was happening between every point) and so was happy to act when Faraji complained about it.

I'd like to see more examples of those but the video above that's hardly a stare. If that is all that, then that's weak from Faraji and the umpire.

TYour he clip does not show the full context. Poor judgement by the umpire. Nandan tried to explain that he is looking at his coach. Here is the full context:

Ah, but 'was' he looking at his coach or he's just saying that in a bid to avoid consequences?
I'd have to see the entire set, or entire match now to know for sure....

A few points earlier, Nandan is trying to explain to both Faraji and the umpire that he's looking at this coach. Players look at their coach all the time after a point.

Yes, it seems you are absolutely correct.
Faraji was being a dick and I just LOVE how he lost the set on an edge ball 😍
If you play it in slow motion and zoom in you can see it 100% caught the back edge but Faraji again with the nonsense and effusive statements that it 100% missed, anything to win, lies too no problem. The more I see of this kid the less I like him, he wouldn't know sport if it but him.in the ass!
He too often seems to find a way to be an a hole.
