BBC breakfast interviewed one of the organizers this morning. He said something about saving money and making sure the games are "sustainable", whatever that means.
only 10 sports will take part and diluted too (ie athletics)

  • Athletics and para-athletics (track and field only)
  • Swimming and para-swimming
  • Artistic gymnastics
  • Track cycling and para-track cycling
  • Netball
  • Weightlifting and para-powerlifting
  • Boxing
  • Judo
  • Bowls and para-bowls
  • 3x3 basketball and 3x3 wheelchair basketball

For ones that didn't know, 2026 was supposed to be hosted by the state of Victoria (not a city) in Australia
but Victoria withdrew due to budget concerns.
so the new host took on and scraped tons of sports due to budget concerns

This shows how difficult it is to host sports tournaments

Always the same nonsense, throw in the word sustainable and cite financial restraints and you can justify everything and anything.
I can see that they are maybe marketing to a younger audience where paddle and pickle ball are the new fads and so honestly I blame 100% the ITTF and other governing bodies who are now expressing their "profound disappointment" but really they have just not done enough (done almost nothing) to grow the game in the past 30 yrs.
Well this is what happens. You stagnate and other people with ideas and drive come along and you get forgotten.
Radical overhaul is needed. Snooker, Boxing, Darts, Tennis etc have all done amazing things to promote and grow in the past decades.
TT is not seen or heard anywhere outside of the TT hall

Budget concerns, of course.
Isn't the only thing common about these games that the wealth has always remained in the same place, London!!! 😂

You do realize sports like cricket, rugby 7s, hockey are also removed, which is way bigger in the host country than table tennis?

the 10 sports will only take part in 4 venues too...

2022 edition had 20 sporting codes.

These are the missing ones:
hockey, cricket, badminton, wrestling, table tennis, diving, rugby sevens, beach volleyball, mountain biking, squash and rhythmic gymnastics.

Paris OG had 32 sporting codes.

And OG is also running out of host countries with Paris and LA bidding for 2024 and both won as they were worried no one will bid for 2028, so IOC asked LA to bid for 2028 (and award straight away) and Paris was the only bid for 2024.

I didn't realise they had truncated the entire event so much.
Honestly I read Gozos post about pickleball and that was enough for my rant V ITTF 😂
Its just a long held opinion that much more could be done to promote the sport but given that so many sports have been axed maybe that part doesn't apply here but the lack of funding from London is disgraceful and that's more because of political issues and the mess that the UK is in right now, a shame.
If these games were treated seriously at the top it really is an event that could be growing rather than shrinking.
Anyway.... 🤷

one day, we will have virtual games
you play against me, each in our own back yards.
since carbon footprint won't allow the thousands of us to fly around the world to compete....lol
