2026 Mediterranean Games (Italian: XX Giochi del Mediterraneo), officially known as the 20th Mediterranean Games and commonly known as Taranto 2026, are an upcoming international multi-sport event scheduled to be held from 23 August to 3 September 2026 in Taranto, Italy. Taranto was announced as the host city at the ICMG General Assembly in Patras, Greece, on 24 August 2019.
Table tennis at the Mediterranean Games-2026 is the table tennis competition at the 2026 Mediterranean Games, which will take place from 26 August to 2 September at the Palasport Giovanni Paolo II in Massafra, Italy. The tournament will be organised by the Italian Table Tennis Federation (FITET) under the auspices of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and the International Committee of Mediterranean Games. Five sets of medals will be awarded: in the men's and women's team and singles events, as well as in mixed doubles.
Participants
All NOCs that are members of the ICMG and whose national federations are members of the ITTF will be eligible to participate in the table tennis competition at the XX Mediterranean Games in Taranto in 2026.
Athletes participating in the competition must be nationals of the country they represent and must comply with the conditions and regulations of the ICMG and ITTF.
The table tennis programme consists of five events: men's singles, women's singles, men's team, women's team and mixed doubles.
Each NOC may enter up to four (4) men and four (4) women in the table tennis competition.
The maximum number of participants from each country is eight (8) athletes — four (4) men and four (4) women.
Playing Format
Team Events:
The men's and women's team events are played under a knockout system.
Each team tie consists of two singles matches, one doubles match and, if necessary, one or two additional singles matches. The first team to score three (3) points wins the tie.
Each individual match in the team events is played as the best of five games (3 out of 5).
Final Stage:
The first-round matches of the men's and women's team events will take place on 26 August, followed by the quarterfinals on 27 August.
The semifinals, gold-medal finals and bronze-medal matches will be played on 28 August.
Mixed Doubles:
Mixed doubles has been included in the Mediterranean Games table tennis programme for the first time.
The competition is played under a knockout system. Matches are played as the best of five games (3 out of 5).
The entire mixed doubles competition will take place on 29 August 2026, from the first round through to the medal matches and awards ceremony.
Singles Events:
The men's and women's singles events are played under a knockout system.
Matches are played as the best of seven games (4 out of 7).
The first and second rounds of the singles events will be held on 30 and 31 August, with the quarterfinals taking place on 1 September 2026.
Final Stage:
The decisive stage of the men's and women's singles events will take place on 2 September 2026 and will include the semifinals and medal matches.
Thus, the table tennis competition at the XX Mediterranean Games will take place from 26 August to 2 September 2026.
