The Holy Grail

There are countless combinations of blades and rubbers in the world of table tennis. The possible permutations are almost endless.


Yet, after my own experiments, I believe there is one combination that deserves to be called the Holy Grail.


For me, it is:

• Blade: Butterfly Viscaria ALC (the regular Viscaria, not the Super Viscaria)
• Forehand: Butterfly Dignics 09C
• Backhand: Any quality medium-hard to hard tensor rubber. My personal favourite is Dignics 05.

In my opinion, this is the Holy Grail of table tennis equipment.


After just a short time hitting with it, everything simply felt… right. The blade and rubbers don’t fight each other. Instead, they complement each other so naturally that the setup almost disappears, leaving you to focus entirely on the ball.


Some combinations are greater than the sum of their parts.


Think of mac and cheese. Butter and honey on toast. Cold chocolate milk with Cocoa Crunch. Gin and tonic.


Each ingredient is good on its own. Together, they become something special.


That’s exactly how I feel about the regular Viscaria paired with Dignics 09C.

No my friend.

why I start this thread; Previously I have tried D09C on my current blade, that is: BTY SK7. It feels muted and just cannot go. Meanwhile, with ZYRE-03; it works wonderfully.

But just recently I tried a fellow clubber's Viz regular with D09C on FH and played a casual set with him.

It instantly felt woah! and it made me reassess my prejudice against D09C. Looping and counter looping felt more controllable.

With Zyre03, it is all about speed speed kill kill, that is, one shot one kill mentality.

With D09C on Viz; it is like can we not end this rally plz, pretty pretty please. Can I have more, sir!
