The Side tape mute off the blade's vibration?

I've heard something interesting about the side tape, the one which cover the blade's edge and rubbers mute off the vibration and sound from the racquet, personally I've played always with tape, because is a way to protect it, but I've never realized if it's true or not, do you have some experience/knowledge in this department?
Let's consider the tape is in 5 plies allwood and 7 plies (5+2) alc, zlc, zlf.
Which pro and cons there are in stick a side tape?
