I would be interesting to know, at least in my opinion, which has been the developing path (in term of equipment) of our favourite champions.
I don't mean last changes when they already became pro, but I'd like to focus more on equipment that followed and helped their development as pro player.

For instance, which blade and rubber used Franziska from kid age, to teen age and then when entered the pro tour?

Don't know if anybody here has this kind of knowledge. Let'see :)

Franziska was using timo boll spirit ST from kid to teen if i remember correctly. Butterfly bryce and something else I can't remember. That was such a long time ago...

After his teen years it should be quite easy to research.

It depends on what you expect from this and where you draw the line between "not pro" and "pro." Is it age, world ranking, etc.? Someone enters the top 20 world ranking at 15, someone at 25 reach top 50 in the world. Does the blade of the 15 year old does not matter when he is already a pro, but changed 4 times last year? Was 18 years old Ma Long already pro or not yet? I guess even Timo Boll does not remember what he had when he was 12.

That was my little reflection on the way the question was phrased, but I like it otherwise. And we can share whatever equipment was used by the players in the past and see how far we can go.

What I know from the head: (exact number of the rubber, year, age might be incorrect)

  • Truls Moregard (cca 2016) - Stiga Carbonado, Mantra H
  • Lebruns before Tibhar - Alexis: Timo Boll ALC, Felix: Innerforce ZLC, Dignics 09C both
  • Harimoto before Butterfly: Yasaka Galaxy Carbon, Yasaka Pryde / with Bty: Custom ALC blade, Tenergy 64, Tenergy 05 FX
  • Zhang Jike (cca 2009): Butterfly Viscaria, Haifu Whale, Nittaku? (cca 2006) - Stiga Allwood blade - perhaps offensive classic
  • Timo Boll before playing with Spirit (2000´s): Bty Viscaria
  • Dmitrij Ovtcharov: Stiga Clipper with Donic handle, then some inner carbon with Donic handles
  • Lin Gaoyuan junior: Stiga Clipper, after Bty Viscaria
  • Fan Zhendong junior: Bty Viscaria
  • Xu Xin (2010´s): Stiga Rosewood
  • Ma Long during 2005-2009: Various Nittaku blades (there is a thread on that), then Timo Boll Spirit
  • Hugo Calderano, before Cornilleau had Tenergie´s
  • Jang Woojin before changing to DHS mainly had something that looked either Xiom Blade and Tenergy, or whole Xiom (might be wrong, but not Chinese rubber at that time)
  • Patrick Francizska later played with Bty Mazunov Off+ All wood
  • Koki Niwa had Liu Shiwen ZLF and Tenergy 25 at some point in 2010´s

Thanks for all info you brought.
I know it's difficult to draw a pro/non-pro line; maybe "famous/not-famous" suits better.
As for being famous I mean that you can easy find info on them or about material they used also in young age due to sponsorhip or presence in big tournaments (Harimoto, Faraji, ecc...)

Main target of the topic is to check if there is some pattern, equipment wise, in player skills development during young age.
Curiosity like ZJK/Franziska using allwood (I once thought pro started kid age with fiber blades and keep them forever) or LGY using "average Joe's" Clipper are very appreciated!
