Vertical vs horizontal short pips

In theory horizontal are better for spin and vertical for hitting, there is a lot of information here: https://ooakforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=12963

in practice, I don't think it makes much difference. This is because I have tried Andro Hexer Pips Plus and also Hexer Pips Force, which can be used in either alignment, side by side in both horizontal and vertical alignments on identical blades, and I really couldn't tell any difference at all.

The shape of the pips and hardness of both the sponge and the topsheet make have a far greater effect and the type of blade makes quite a bit of difference as well.

Moristo SP is vertical. Moristo SP AX is horizontal. Very big difference in play. AX makes more spin but also takes more spin. It plays kind of like an old-school inverted, sriver or mark v. Regular Moristo SP is slightly grippy but it hits through spin more like a typical SP.

This is true, but SP AX also have different shaped pips, Moristo SP have a conical base and cylindrical top, the pips on Moristo SP AX are lower and are conical/cone shaped.

I think there is often more spin in horizontal. But form, grip and size of pimple also make a difference. Sponge too.
