Yippee Kay Yay!
Our lil'female unicorns just went into the knock-out stage. Took down Italy with a 3-2 scoreline.
Malaysia women's team is way stronger than men's team.
Indeed good fight to be 2nd place in that group
Italy and Puerto Rico could of taken 2nd and 3rd place if Malaysian women's aren't too careful.

congradulations

Head Coach Beh Lee Wei has admitted to the media that she wants to send our players out to play more WTT events but it is difficult for the Table Tennis Association of Malaysia to support itself without the help of extra funding. She urged the government to support TTAM as she believes that it would ease their route of sending players out more often. She also regretted that they were not able to get the Olympic slot through rankings as Malaysian players didn't play enough international tournaments to accumulate enough points to boost their rankings. As a result, they could only fight for the one slot offered in the South East Asian Regional Olympic Qualifications which is very difficult. The low rankings also prevented Malaysia from participating most of the high level WTT events such as Contenders & Star Contenders as there are simply not enough slots for low ranked players. This is why Malaysia can only play in Feeders but even so the number of tournaments participated in limited due to budget constraints. My thoughts: I am glad that the coaches finally answered to question on why Malaysia never participate in international tournaments. It is sad to finally know the truth. Malaysian table tennis players are good, but they aren't give much opportunities to shine due to lack of budget. I really hope that the government can take our sports seriously and provide more assistance to TTAM.

So, in the end it all boils down to MONEY! MONEY! MONEY! Pretty mundane!

Its OK, we'll continue to play in our little corner. Will leave it to the big boys to play with WTT.

MAS ( 2 ) vs CAN ( 3 ): Our little male unicorns lost the match despite winning MS1 & MS2. They do not have the mental fortitude to convert that advantage to a win. Sigh! They are doing what a seeded no. 40 team is suppose to do, that is losing.
i saw a post on reddit asking why Malaysian players don't play WTT
The poster had a lot of good facts about how good the Malay players are, including some wins or close games against reputable opponents.

it is a shame, they don't have budget to travel the world to play.

its always a chicken and egg scenario. No result no funding, no funding means no result. We just have to wait for a breakaway star to emerge serendipity.

We are strong in squash, but it not always the case until Nicole David burst into the scene and clinched WR#1. Money start to pour in from sponsors and today Malaysia is strong in squash.

TT in Malaysia needs her very own version of Nicole David.

yeah, but Malaysia will never have a WR1 in table tennis
not even 10 or 20.

and you know what.. with WTT, you need to spend money to take part in WTT to be ranked high... lol
unless can be continental champion, like Africa, Americans and Oceania and gifted to WR40~50 with 1 tournament win. That won't happen for Malaysia for sure (can't even happen for Japan/Taiwan/Korea lol)

Its a bit sad
seems like the best route is what Aruna is doing - play pro leagues in Europe and use that income to fund WTT trips.

Happening now. My local National Competition. This clip shows our MS No.1 & 2 seed battling it out in the MT SF.

P/S: Their play style is definitely not Euro-style.

History in the making:

MD R16 of Asian TT Championship @ Astana, Kazakhstan, Malaysia Men's Doubles pair of Wong Qishen / Javern Choong 3 vs Jang Woojin / Cho Daesong of S. Korea 1.

The Malaysia pair advance to QF where the will meet the Chinese MD pair of Lin Gaoyuan / Lin Shidong.

  • Some Malaysian TT news update:
  • Remember this Malaysian pair of Wong Qishen / Javern Choong?
  • This pair got the bronze medal in the recent Asian TT Championship MD event.
  • They made history of defeating the Korean pair of Jang Woojin / Cho Daesong in R16 and then went on to defeat the favourite pair from China of Lin Shidong / Lin Gaoyuan in QF to move to SF.
  • With this, they auto qualify for the upcoming WTTC in Doha Jan25.
  • Wong Qishen is also invited to play in Tier 2 of China Super League in Nov25. I wish him all the best.
