Some of my TT friends like to only play with Nittaku Premium 40+ balls. But I find that a few brands are actually better and lasting longer than Nittaku's.
Just curious that what you think and what the main differences are among different brands?
Thanks.
Which brands do you prefer to the Nittaku?

I do not like Nittaku Premium and Butterfly balls at all.

Nittaku premium - They are too heavy and become too smooth very soon and so are not good for spin, looping game. No wonder they are hardly used in any top competition recently (even though one may argue that the process of delegating the ball sponsor for WTT tournaments is not on the basis of merit (ball quality))

Butterfly - they are lighter than ideal and the bounce is not solid and even. Not at all fun to play with. They share a problem with Nittaku balls - they become too smooth and gripless very soon unlike the balls mentioned below which are my favorites.

My favorite balls are:

Double Fish Volant V40+ - my favorite balls at the time of this writing - great balance of even bounce, weight, grip, durability
Xiom 3 * (the made in Korea ones) - fantastic evenness, weight and quality
Xushaofa 3 * - these used to be the best seamless balls but are now discontinued
DHS 3* - this is the minimum that will do for me - they have good bounce and grip - however, I like the above 3 better

In my country the majority of players not of the club or team are playing with Nittaku Premium 40+, i don't like it, as many said, heavy, every day/week it breaks, and getting smooth, and yet they love to play with it over anything else, and that is why i don't enjoy playing with those players but i have to for their favor anyway.

The league of my country they use Tibhar, i don't know why, if there is a reason then i would like to know.

For me, in the past the best 40+ ball i played with was XuShaoFa, i remember i had 6 balls pack, it didn't break, i lost many of them and only one i still have it and not broken since like 6 years ago, i am very sad why they are out of production of that model, i liked it more than DHS, now DHS is my favorite ball brand followed by Double Fish V40+, then anything else like Tibhar or Joola or Donic.

weirdos at my club would rather play with their smooth ass nittaku than my brand new DHS ball. losers IMO lol.
Exactly my thoughts. Nittaku and Butterfly balls have a cult following and I feel those people do not understand anything about what a good ball should be like. Most won't listen and will just repeat that Nittaku (or Butterfly) are the best brands and so their balls are the best. They will insist on playing with those balls and some would not play with any other balls.

I think it is important to note, balls have wear and tear.
when balls are smooth, they are supposed to be thrown away.

Based on new balls,
Nittaku Premium
DHS DJ40+ Tokyo edition
DHS DJ40+ WTT edition
DF PAR40+
are all good when brand new.

before the new abs technology, I prefer seamless balls, but the ABS of today has stepped up a lot.

Nittaku premium and DHS DJ40 very similar. But in reality I get to play with so many different types that it doesn’t matter anymore. One exception though. I hate Butterfly training balls. Don’t know why I just hate them 😟

Cheers

I think Nittaku remains popular because years ago when plastic balls were new, Nittaku *was* the best because the other balls were complete garbage. The old Butterfly G40+ sounded like they were made of glass. The XuShaoFa 3* seamless were okay, but often misshapen and had weird trajectories. Now other brands have improved so much I don't think Nittaku really has any advantage over competitors aside from the fact that they are one of two brands that make orange 40+ balls.

Funny this thread pops up again....
We were playing on Monday night and the table beside us were using a Nittaku Premium 3*, we were using a DHS D40+ 3*, both balls were new and the Nittaku was heavier!

I was surprised when I picked it up from the floor with the DHS also in my hand, it was just a tiny bit but we all could notice it.
We swapped balls for a while and agreed there was a difference.
I couldn't decide which I preferred because after 20 shots it didn't matter anymore as you just got used to it but there ya go, if anyone does prefer a slightly heavier ball then Nittaku is for you, if you can afford them...
For me it also explains the smoothness that people associate with the Nittaku ball.
It lasts longer and that's why they get smooth like that, most other balls are broken before they get to that stage.
The other table beside us cracked 2 orange DHS 3* balls. That Nittaku would be smoother than my bald head and still be going in 2025 if I hadn't stood on it later in the evening! 🤦

most competitions in Japan are played with Nittaku CLEAN PREMIUM 3*
and for the rest with the Victas VP40+

maybe i've done 1 competition with Butterfly balls but that was it.

Apart from young students who are very short of pocket money, everybody practices with Nittaku 3*.
Other balls i see are practice balls used for multiballs and thats in schools, thats it.

surprised to see so many DHS D40+ balls
I hated those
DJ40+ is way better
well D40+ they're pretty decent, and are cheaper even with the 10 ball per box presentation.

As for other comments, I agree with Nittaku/Butterfly been too smooth, also they're very light and flight like the old celluloid balls which yearn, but i dont want to readjust.

I'm currently using 3 brands:
Sanwei ABS 3* : they're a bit wobbly out of the box, but they seem to normalize after a few hits.
Tuttle 3* : they're smoother than the sanwei, but i like them, they bounce faster/higher and mantain whiteness longer than other brands
GEWO Select Pro 40+ : They're the worst, brakes too easily
