There are lots of drills you can do, starting from simple to difficult:

- regular FH/BH without real movement: works on a smooth stroke and the mechanics
- alternate FH/BH around centre of the table: works on transition sideways
- alternate FH/BH around the backhand corner: works on pivoting
- short (push/flick) + long (topspin open up/ drive): works on in & out footwork
- Falkenburg: really burn your legs!

I think random drills would be difficult without some visual aid.

Two other points that I think are important:
- Always recover even if that means going a bit slower, it is a very important habit
- If possible, do it near a table that is similar height to the actual table, and stay low at all times

Thanks! Going to add the Falkenburgs to the routine. Regarding "recover", do you mean after I hit FH or BH, I bring my feet back to equally distributed weight, with a very tiny hop?

Yes, you should be in a neutral stance so you can cover any (unexpected) returns.

This depends on how you want to play. Why do something that you do not use?
On the contrary i also like just different kind of jumps and working on having good balance, which i think is the most important part in footwork. Keeping the shoulders straight.
