Hello Everybody, I have tested the Butterfly Tenergy 80 on my forhand in 1.9mm thickness. First I can say this Rubber feels very grippy like the other Tenergy Series. I tested the Tenergy 05 and the Tenergy 80. The T80 played more soft and straight. The Tenergy 05 has got a really high bounce, so it was easy to played Topspin against Topspin. With the Tenergy 80 I had more fun in Blocking and in the Short game. This Rubber is in the middle of Tenergy 05 and Tenergy 64 it's for Players which want speed spin and Control in all ways

Spin and control is brilliant without too much effort, it is definitely good for a first time tenergy user.Easy to lift backspin.I don't really like it on the forehand as although it's fast I feel a lack of power especially with the soft sponge. It's best suited for the backhand. To use the rubber you do need to have good touch and push as the ball can often drift high, if weak at the short game.Overall, good rubber despite the price!

I have changed recently for the backhand from a Tenergy 05 to Tenergy 80 as it is more controlable and better for blocking. I can do anything I want with it, I love the rubber :)

Pros

Cons

  • Drives
  • Powerful on BH
Just buy this rubber to pair my Ebenholz NCT V. For me, this rubber only powerful on my BH side. But the spin are ok. Counter attacks are the best in the Tenergy series. Touch and Flicks too. This rubber is also not recommended for drives. The ball always goes high. But thats the good thing in mid-distance.

  • Too average?
The T80 is half way between the T05 and T80. Not as spinny as T05, not as fast as T80, with a throw higher than T64, and maybe just less than the T05.

It is a very versatile rubber, and will serve a rounded player well.

Sadly, maybe because it is so good at everything and excellent at nothing, it is also the tenergy that is the least durable. It will remain a good rubber after 2-3 months, but it does not seem to have the same durability as the others. Is this because players tend to use the T05 for brushing (so sponge remains good for longer) and T64 for more puching (so topsheet remains good for longer) while you'd use both to play shots with T80? I'm not sure.

Those playing with T80 could try Xiom Vega Pro or Asia for similar characteristics.

Good for close to the table speed players but not meant for players with so much power. Good speed and great for blocking and counterattacking. Good mix of 05 and 64

I've used Tenergy 80 with both my Timo Boll ALC (which broke!!) and now currently using it with my Carbonado 190.
The rubber offeres a great amount of contol while blocking and spinny loops. I've only used it on my backhand, and I prefer it to Tenergy 05 when it comes to opening and blocking, but nothing else.
Theres just something about this rubber that I don't like, but I'm not quite sure what it is. I'm a player that relies on hi-speed shots combined with a lot of spin, and Tenergy 80 just doesn't provide me with what I want.

If you're a player that needs control and spin, this is a great rubber for you. It's also great for the allround player that needs a mixture of control, speed and spin. If you're like me, and relies on fast, direct shots, you'll be dissapointed.
For me, Tenergy 05 is perfect for both forehand and backhand, as it's better for fast counterhits and powerful loops.

Butterfly created a hybrid between Tenergy 64 and 05, and this rubber is precisely this. It has more spin and a higher throw compared to Tenergy 64 and also a bit slower. For blocking, Tenergy 64 still rules with a lower throw. I wanted more spin and changed to Tenergy 80, while still being less sensitive to incoming spin compared to Tenergy 05.

This is now my forehand rubber by preference. It is very spiny and has very good control on blocking. Like many users have said, the price is the issue.

Tenergy 80 is a great rubber! It is the best from the Tenergy series that I have ever used. Infact it is the best rubber I have used. It is comfotable and extremely easy to play with. The spin you get from the rubber is super heavy, combined the the excellent spin, it is an all round 10 out of 10 rubber! Very good in the short game department to.

Softer than T05, harder than T64, it does everything in between.

Blocks better than T05, slightly less sensitive to spin, with throw just a bit lower (hardly noticeable). Feels softer and is a bit bouncier than T05.
A good backhand rubber.

Excellent for looping and driving.

Right now I am playing division 4 for my club. Tenergy 80 is really bouncy but it is really good for off table looping and counter. I use Tenergy 80 on both side of my blade and it allows me to win most of my matches.

I really hate this rubber. Coming from 05 you really miss out on many qualities. I play on elite level, and the 80 cannot find it's way, it is simply not good enough to compete on high level, just like the Calibra.

If the T05 is too spin-sensitive, if the T64 is too fast, then try the T80.
I think it's the perfect Tenergy for medium level players.
It's the easyest one, the most forgiving. But it's still a Tenergy ! power, spin, touch, durability...

One of my first video reviews on youtube and it's still one of my favourite. In this review I used the Timo Boll ALC and Tom used the Timo Boll ZLC.
